Better news today other parties insurance will pay either repair write off or keep car and settle they said, I said I think it will go the keep car and settle route given its age in the mean time they're providing a courtesy car as technically I can't drive ours due to the missing light making it not road legal .
So glad it’s working out for you! So sorry to hear about your dad really hope he is doing ok!
Puts things in perspective.. really does!

Make sure that you have it fixed to road legal standards before they pay out because once they pay they will take that courtesy car back quicker than a toddler takes chocolate. Also don’t take the first offer, trawl auto trader for cars the same as yours with the same mileage get 2-3 of the most expensive examples and use that to argue your pay out figure. If they are in essence paying you off too write off the car then you want what the car is worth in pre accident condition as a minimum. I got £2.5k for my wife’s Punto HGT when she crashed it when at the time it was maybe worth £1000

Yes they will take the car back once fixed or payment has cleared they said.

Haggle with them a little regarding the courtesy car. It's a industry standard practice you should have it for 7 days from date they make payment if the car is written off and they retain salvage. This is to give you enough time to practically source a replacement. If they want it back instantly on the basis you're retaining your car, then haggle for another £50 on the PAV (pre-accident Value) etc (y)

So my wife's been driving the courtesy car, OMG she's converted(once totally against automatic cars) we've been given a 19 plate Fiesta Auto, my daughter and wife now want a "new" car :)

Lots of stories around about the Fiesta autobox, none good. Nicknamed "powersh*t" rather than Ford's own name powershift. No idea if they've fixed the inherent fault, but they fail, and are not fixable. By all means go auto, not this one.

what's people's thoughts.

My thinking would be say that £1900 is way too low (have a couple of examples as evidence) and ask them to find you a comparable used car instead. Then offer to accept the £1900 if you can keep the salvage.

By the time they've collected it, auctioned it and paid all the transport costs and other fees, I can't imagine they'd make much, if anything, from keeping it.

On another note the cheap £50 pattern part bumper seems to fit other than the issue of mounting the badge?

You'd be surprised tbh. Salvage values have become silly now, not much profit to be made from repairing salvage as a result.

The commercial deals for Copart fees etc that a lot of insurers get are very favourable also, due to the shear turnover of vehicles involved.

Salvage deduction on this 500 I'd expect circa 15-25% of the PAV.
