Hi all, I am soon to buy an used Fiat 500 1.2 Pop here in Australia.

I have chosen a 1.2 ltr engine after driving 1.4 and 1.2.

There are three 500s in my price range, passione red, black and gelato white.

I love passione red one and I have read all (I think) threads on here about red 500s and fading, but most of the threads are several years old.

I was wondering if anyone had bad or good experiences with red coloured 500s? Did the colour fade? It's 2017 now so I presumed people might have more to say as more time has passed.

I heard about chipping, but not as concerned about that as about fading.

I have checked the red used model and it appeared in good nick colour wise (2013 model). It also appears to have a clear coat. i presume that will help with preventing fading.

Here are some of the photos of the used model I am looking at, as I could not find any mention of 'passione red' on UK forums.

Hi there , it looks the same as " Pasadoble red " here in the UK and is a pastel non metallic colour . My 500C will be 3 years old this year and as of yet I have had no fading , just a couple of stone chips , however I do have the car washed and waxed every few weeks I think the wax helps prevent fading .

I wouldn't worry about fading, the clear coat will peel before the colour fades. There's a red 500 that I drive past, the body is fine but the (obviously resprayed) bonnet is badly faded, so it looks like the factory clear holds up fine in our sun.

If you really want your car to look as good as possible for as long as possible, solid white will never be beaten.

Pasodoble red isn't a pastel colour, it's a quite deep solid red. It's not prone to fading, but it chips terribly easily and this is very noticeable because the primer is white.
