Is there a way to reset the oil service light on a 58 plate fiat 500 or is it a dealership job?

I've searched online to find a "push pedal down 3 times method" but this seems to be for the later models as I've tried it with no joy.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
I use Multiecuscan www.multiecuscan.net and a elm 327 interface. This can do lot more than just reset service lights. Did you change the oil youself? Note that most dealers won't do a service reset unless they did he actual service for legal reasons.
What engine does your 500 have?

Thanks Robert,

I service the vehicle myself, I understand that the dealers won't just reset the light wasn't sure if there was a specific diagnosis tool to reset light.

I'll take a look at that software I use something similar for my Audi.

The engine is the 1.2

Hi Mike,
Multiecuscan (MES) is one of the best investments you can make if keeping and servicing your own Fiat. You need a PC (laptop or notepad anything with Windows XP SP 2 or newer), a registered copy of Multiecuscan (€50) www.multiecuscan.net and an ELM 327 or similar interface lead.e.g. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271275445368 (£15) and yellow adaptor "3" http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152525748488 (£7) or a set http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/162524569889 (27) if you might do other cars. I've used all sellers.

Ok so I have the EML 327 lead and Yellow adapter, downloaded the free version of the Multiecuscan program and all I'm getting is "connection failed EML327->ECU connection failed Check Cable and serial port settings!

Am I doing something wrong?

Settings are as follows

Interface type : elm327 1.3/1.4/1.4b/2.1
Serial port : Com 5 (USB serial port) 38400.

Test comes back with "This interface is compatible with ELM 327 1.4 Should connect properly with all CAN modules

@g8rpi

Hi,
Is the plug in fully and does the power LED light up on the interface?
Robert G8RPI

Yeah appears to go all the way in and power led light goes red.

I've also noticed that it sometimes triggers an airbag warning or fuel cut off disabled warning once unplugged from the car.

Thanks for you're help on this one g8rpi, thought it would be a straight forward issue as I've used vagcom etc in the past with no issues

Hi,
If you have a multimeter, check the resistance between pins 6 and 14 of the interface. If it is less than 200 ohms it may have a resistor connected that should not be there. Which interface (ebay number or link to site) did you buy?

portland_bill tried those settings getting a timeout error,

MES seems quite difficult to get to connect, but once connected, a very capable program.
I've found my step-by-step process to work every time, and for a long time now, so cannot remember now all the frustrating refusals. You must set up the connection before opening MES, did you do that, or was it already open?
Reboot machine.
Connect cable
Set up cable (Might need another reboot for the settings to stick and be used.)
Then open MES.

You did get a 'modified' ELM?

No questions are silly questions imo, but yeah ignition is on. Getting really frustrated with this

Supposedly my ELM is a modified unit, I have linked to it in this thread. I haven't rebooted my after changing the settings but did set up as you suggested. Instead of getting unable to connect I get connection timeout and if I test at what you suggested it also says timeout.

Do you have a link to the cables your using and also what version of MES your using?

Hi,
One of the interfaces I've bought was
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161715574389
A couple of forum members are reporting connection problems with ELM interfaces, I wonder if there is a bad batch.
Can you try another car? even a different make with a generic application would confirm operation. You should also contact the seller.

I get this virtually every time. I normally get the port settings up on screen, unplug the USB cable and then plug it back in. Close port settings and restart MES. Works for me every time.

No harm in trying that I guess, When you plug the port back in what does your computer recognise the USB as?

Thanks
