Hi All

Tried to find the answer on Google to save me having to post here but no luck. With regards to the speakers in a Fiat 500, what speakers are meant to work? In the front of the car I have door speakers and also one each side near the windscreen. Door speakers work grand, however there doesn't seem to be any sound from the ones either side of the windscreen... are these just for show or is there a way to get music from them?
Thank you x

Yes, they're tweeters and they're fitted to the standard sound system, at least both our cars, a Pop and a Lounge, have them - other markets may differ.

Thanks both. Stupid question, but what does it mean by tweeters? Should I be hearing a lot of sound from them? I put my ear to them this morning but couldn't hear much and all sound sounded like it was coming from door speakers and the speakers until the window beside the back passenger seats.

'Tweeters', as opposed to 'woofers' (your door speakers for example) reproduce the very high frequency end of the audio spectrum. I personally find it very hard to hear them but that may be caused by a lifetime as a headbanger. They certainly won't make the earth move like a 'sub-woofer' which, as the name implies, emphasizes the low frequency end of the spectrum - if you have one fitted, as I have, you can almost feel the bass notes.

This link might help explain better than I can;

Thank you
Still a bit confused as to what I should be hearing so I know if they're working or not.

They won't seem to produce much sound if you crank it up and put your ear near it you should hear the higher notes(stick a finger in the other ear), turn your head away and the high notes will get less, the high notes are more directional so the speakers are generally mounted high up sometimes directed at the drivers head to give the best possible stereo effect.
It may not seem it but they are just as loud as the door speakers! its the way our ears hear it.
As we get older our high frequency hearing gets far worse simply not hearing the higher notes you once could as a child.
You can get an amazing true 4 way stereo sound effect using "Digital Time Alignment" once fitted to high end car radios its truly a great tool, I digress,,

Thank you. I always have my music at a minimum of about 15, 20 if I'm driving and wanting a good sing, about 10 if I've got passenger, so maybe why I can't hear it if musics too loud? I'm in my late 20s so hearings not as grand as it once was.

To be honest you shouldn't be able to hear any specific speakers over any other, it should all just blur.

Try picking a song with a high pitch and very little bass, may help to hear it a bit. As mentioned, some people just hear high pitches better than others (I can hear phone chargers and all sorts that no one else seems to, so I guess that's the opposite problem )

I put my ear to the tweeter one to see what I could hear but it was nothing. thanm you

You know when you're getting old when you work out the volume control goes to the left as well as the right!

Aah, so you've grown out of your yobby phase of blasting those sick bass beats out the window in McDonald's carpark? :p

EDIT: Also gonna go out and listen to my little speakers now just out of curiosity.

Please could you let me know the outcome of listening to yours so I can compare mine please?

Obvious way to find out if tweeters work is to play a rock track, preferably with strings on a 2 speaker CD player at home. Then take said CD out to car and set speed related volume to 5. At 50mph and 70mph the volume will increase. If your hair stands on end you'll know they work. :)

Play something with clear singing on and cover the tweeters. If it sounds dull they are working.

You should also make sure you have the treble turned up on the stereo. I have bass and treble set to +1

Do you know how to change the settings for sound please? I'm not sure, but also scared I much it up and end up with all music at one side of the car and not at the other
