HI I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as fiat want a big fee just to hook up to a machine......
the outdoor temp display started showing -30 for a few days when it was about 10 degrees so way off and then all of a sudden it has stopped showing any number, also maybe in relation the passenger wing mirror has stopped working on the electric adjuster (drivers side works ok). any suggestions?

Suggests a wiring issue probably at the mirror end could try taking it off apart and checking could also be where the wires go through the door hinge

My thoughts also. This hasn't been reported as yet, but it's certainly possible, even if far less likely that with the rear hatch. If there is a wiring failure in the loom at the door hinge, then diagnostics will likely be worthless anyway. Personally I wouldn't be paying Fiat a big fee to hookup a machine.

Substitution with a known good passenger door mirror would take less than 15mins and provide a definitive answer without any serious dismantling. They can be bought secondhand for £25 or perhaps even less. Removal is just a snap on cover, two allen bolts and a connector.

If necessary you can also, with care, dismantle the entire door mirror into its constituent parts. See this thread for details.

This sort of fault falls outside of the fiats ability to hook up and see exactly where the fault lays, a Mercedes for example has so much electronics that it can tell you if you've sneezed on the steering wheel.

The fiat diagnostics set up will be able to tell you the temp sensor isn't working it won't know why or where the fault is, and as you can see for yourself that the bloody thing doesn't work it makes Fiat's expensive suggestion to plug it in, completely pointless.

Fiat usually hide the temp sensor in the bottom of a wing mirror, it will often share wiring with the mirror electrics so any fault with the mirror heater or adjustment motors can cause faults, assuming the central locking in the door is working then I'd suggest the fault is fairly local to the door and would rule out any hatch wiring problems.

As suggested above take the mirror apart look at the wiring, look at the wiring from the door to the car body, if you can't find fault disconnect the temp sensor and see if the mirror starts working.

Generally have a play about with it and see what you can find, this is all a fiat tech will do, mechanics are good but usually all they can do with this sort of thin is fiddle about.
