Technical Broken Window Motor

Hi guys, I was angry at getting a parking ticket and slammed the driver side door shut as I was leaving my car again. I did this while the window was down, and guess what! The window doesn't work, I cannot raise it! I can hear the motor humming when i press the button but no movement!

I went to the dealer, of course they wanted to sell me a window motor for 200 EUR, but I just asked them to seal the window shut. So for now that is how it stays!

I am really angry that the window motor broke so easily to be honest even if I shouldn't have slammed the door shut so fast, so I guess I will stay with it like this, as in driving with windows up at all times!

ahmett, I don't know whether to laugh or cry. You, you of all people! How long have you owned a 500? How can you possibly wonder why the window motor broke so easily? This is after all, a 500!!!

hahaha. well, to punish myself I won't fix it! this was the first time i closed the window so hard, really funny! 135,000 kms in and the 7th year of ownership!

Take the door apart and see why its not working from a picture it looks cable driven

perhaps its come off at one end? about £55 new here

yes i felt some part came off because I can hear the motor working but nothing is moving. The mechanic did open it but did not bother investigating, just to say I need a new one!

I will not fix it for now and see how i get on.

My prediction is that if you don't fix it, it will stay broken .

It's worth taking off the door card to see what's happening. It might just need putting back together properly.

If a good slam knocked it off it can't be too hard to fix? then maybe it might be?

That's what I was thinking but i hurt my finger trying to take the door card off and my trusted dealer just wanted me to buy a new one!

If i go anywhere else they will charge me before even looking at it so the best solution would be to source one myself and just pay the labor to fix it.

A few nuts or screws, it can't be that hard to replace the regulator ? Just keep the window taped in place (so it does not fall down and break)

@typecastboy, if you've swapped one of these to another car, can you advise whether or not they need to be programmed to the new car's CAN network? IIRC this was an issue on some Punto's.

If so, I'd imagine MES would be able to do this.

Well to be honest, when you get a new one you have to do it anyway no?

I've only ever taken them out, never changed one so don't know, sorry. I wouldn't have thought they needed programming though.

Is it a Bosch CAN system? If so, I am sure my Bosch dealer would be able to sort it out. I will be paying them for the labor anyway. Would there be any issues to programming it with the standard Bosch diagnostics?
