General Twinair mileage

General Twinair mileage

Highest mileage I've seen at work was a 2015 with 70000. Still drove spot on.
I change the oil in mine every 6 months using selina K 0/30 and genuine filter. The TA is a bit thirsty for oil for the first 12000 miles, most come in for service with the oil below
minimum!
Our other car is a 500L with a 105TA, it's silly quick and fun to drive. Bet not many L owners say that.

Who has the highest mileage TA?

What's gone wrong with it and how often do you change the oil (and with which oil)?

Is the 85 better than the 105 for longevity? The 105 has a 6th gear isn't it... but does it cruise at lower rpm that the 5th speed in the 85?

In similar threads. The 100k. Of rallycinq seems typical

The injector solenoid unit it the biggest potential issue/bill..but correct servicing should keep it healthy.

Why are you asking?

Only covered 43k in 6 years in my recently departed TA Lounge 85. Oil and filter change annually, iridium spark plugs installed for longer life, Shell V Power nitro plus used frequently to help keep the injectors clean. No engine problems at all.
Once out of warranty, I had the servicing carried out by an independent. I supplied the oil. My handbook specified 5W 40 so that's what I used, Castrol Edge once then subsequently Petronus 3000AV.

Cool, thanks all.

I'm curiouse about the TA since I might fancy a new motor soon... (impending house-move costs and solicitor's fees will determine... ) :D

I was waiting for a Tipo saloon in 120bhp benzina flavor... but apparently there's no demand.. :D

There is a Tipo 95bhp option for sale in Ireland... so an import might not be completely out of the question... but I just knoe I'll resent those missing 25bhp, just because I could have had them but Fiat didn't give me the option.. :D

So.. realistically I'll be in 500X or 500/Panda territory.

The 500X would be a no-brainer (1.4 petrol 120bhp manual... :D) but 500/Panda are smaller... so I could 'appen as maybe live with 85bhp... unless the 105 was reckoned to be a lot better. Biggest "negative" on 500/Panda is their physical size (or lack of).

So.. mulling over the permutations. 500/Panda do have the advantage that they look pretty funky though... so being smaller than I really need could just be not so important.. :D

In practical, real-world terms, the Panda is bigger than the 500 by much more than the physical dimensions might suggest.

I've one of each, and I've lost count of the number of times I've been able to carry something in the Panda that would have been impossible in the 500.

If you're regularly travelling with more than 2 people in the car, it's an absolute no-brainer.

The twinair 85 motor gives pretty strong performance, I was still enjoying mine after 6 years. I imagine the Panda with the TA engine is equally sprightly.
The 500X Multiair 140 I've just got is noticably quicker, and of course much more spacious than the 500 hatch. The perceived quality of the interior is also much better. VED has gone from 0 to £130 though.
If something Panda sized is ok, the new Suzuki Ignis looks a good alternative if you don't like the Panda.

Now...there is an idea

D

I like that Ignis.. but not *that* much.. :D

The car I would "buy today" is a Tipo saloon in 120bhp petrol engine flavor.. but only the Irish punter gets a RHD saloon and sadly that's 95bhp.

(Just as an aside... how can 95bhp become 120bhp? Is it a whole new cylinder head or just a map job?) It's not out of the questione to import a Tipo. It'd be unusual for the UK which is not such a bad thing... and all the bits apart from the rear bodywork is going to be the same as the hatch isn't it... so no worries with servicing and parts... Hmmm....

The next best thing would seem to be a 500X... for the size/engine I fancy...

Or (because they're pretty cool.. and I could put up with it being "too small" ) either a Panda or a regular 500.

I'm Libra. I can't make my mind up.. you may have noticed... :D
