I was wondering if A) it was possible to remove the glass guarding the instrument cluster and B) if it is, could somebody please tell me how to do so.

I got in my car this morning to see a rather large insect of some kind stuck behind there and it’s kind of off putting so would like to remove it ASAP!

Also if anybody has any ideas on how it could have got in there so I can try and prevent it from happening again, they would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello and welcome to the forum .

There've been a few bugs with the 500 over the years.

Generally the advice when troubleshooting bugs is to first identify what's causing the problem. Fiat examiner and Multiecuscan are the tools we usually recommend for this, but in your case, the best tool to identify the bug properly might be an Observer's Field Guide to the Insects of the British Isles.

Typecastboy will no doubt be along tomorrow with further details of what's needed to get the offending critter out of there.

Spraying behind the dash with any of the commonly used insect killers might prevent future problems of this nature, if you'll pardon the pun.

Hahaa I like it ? Wasn't sure if spraying the dash was a wise idea but if I do manage to get the plastic off tomorrow I'll give it a go. Think it may be a long shot identifying the bug though! Thanks ?

Oh no! Not ideal, it really is off putting haha. Did you not have to remove it to fit the digital speedometer? It's just behind what I think is called the 'speedo cowling'

Not that I can see, it really is baffling haha. Hope no more make their way in!

Re: Changed my speedo for a digital one

There are several holes as you can see in the back of the speedo. The bug must have got behind the dash and into one of those holes, and then found it's way to the front.

What are the chances of that!?

Haha no way!! The chances of that and of course, it WOULD happen to me ? Thanks so much for looking & for the help.

Entomology isn't my strong suit but many insects are attracted to light and that might just be why it's at the front of the instrument. If you cover the front of the display it may find it's way out the way it came in.

Don't think i'd be able to bring myself to drive it if that happened - so hopefully not haha!
