Dashboard warning lights flash with right indicator

Hello, newbie here!

I have a 2013 500 (out of warranty!) which I bought new and today two of the dashboard warning lights (Seat belt and Temperature) flash along with the right indicator, when the indicator is on.

Very weird! Could it be an electrical issue? Moisture in the electrics? Any ideas? Thanks.

I've had that in two of my cars. Never looked into it but it was a bit annoying.

Ah, so not serious then.

Does it come and go?

I heard on another forum that perhaps maxing the heater and getting the inside of the car really hot might remove moisture and solve the issue. I'm going to try that today.

Re: Dashboard warning lights flash with right indicator

Be careful - there are fragile parts in the heater flap mechanism and if they are weakened by excessive heat. they may subsequently break; replacement is a major job (think in the region of 2k).

Also have you checked the hatch wiring yet? Any failure there (and it's extremely common) can lead to all manner of entirely unpredictable electrical glitches.

If you want to heat the car up, wait until summer? or use a fan heater. As JR asks do you have any issues with the hatch?

Re: Dashboard warning lights flash with right indicator

We have had this twice now both fixed under warranty by replacing the whole unit.
The mechanic said it was a bad batch of LEDs that were the cause so could be fixable by replacing LEDs or maybe adding a resistor or diode?
If someone has a faulty unit it would be interesting to see whats inside and maybe solve this .

I might guess at a broken earth track on the rear of the cluster, in a similar way as several lights coming on/flashing on the rear of some cars, you see at the traffic lights ?

I thought the same but what's odd is the issue was worse when cold/damp and almost cured when hot.
With ours the first replacement was different to to the original (lights location and LCD layout) so we assumed it was an improved design until that also failed !
So far so good with the second unit so maybe bad LEDs is correct but I can't see how ?

Re: Dashboard warning lights flash with right indicator

Seen quite a few dash faults like this. The two this week, one with the RH indicator flashing also powered the high temperature light, the EML and the LH indicator tell tale. The other flashed the EML with the RH indicator. Both cured with new clock set, nothing to do with hatch wiring.
Thanks typecastboy thanked for this post

Re: Dashboard warning lights flash with right indicator

My wife's 2014 (63 plate) 1.2 Lounge with 18000 miles has just started with the exact same fault as the OP.

From the comments previously am I correct that the only solution is to replace the digital display?
Which are available on Ebay.

I have seen another thread started by typecastboy where he has changed the display and it seems straight forward but how do you bring the mileage inline with the original removed display - has it been done and how?

Thanks in advance

You need a licenced copy of multiecuscan (€50), an interface cable, and a windows laptop.

Note that you can only increase the mileage in the display, so if purchasing secondhand, you need to buy a unit which has a lower mileage than your car has covered.

Re: Dashboard warning lights flash with right indicator

Thanks for the reply - I think I will leave the fix at the moment, until I have another reason to get the software and cables.

If you're anywhere near the M25 and fancy a drive, I'll happily do it for you.
