Hi there,

New to the forum. Just picked up my first 500 (cute little 1.2L "sport" in Azzuro Cuor Leggero). On my first drive to work I noticed that whenever there is even the tiniest amount of bass in the music I'm listening to, the rear speaker panel (and i'm guessing the whole panel) vibrates and makes a buzz sound. It sounds like when you max the volume on a cheap car and the whole thing vibrates (remember back in the day when "systems" in the trunk was a thing and from outside you could hear the trunk vibrating and falling apart).

It's driving me insane. I'm tempted to rip apart the side panel and see if the speaker is loose (which it's not, because it's both) or if I can move the speaker back or something.

Is this common? Maybe because its cold out and the plastic doesn't want to be flexible? Oh there's also a tiny squeak from the right rear area above the seat (sounds like a bad shock, but its not because i had it checked), so i'll just throw that in the mix of squeaks and rattles that accompany me to work every day.

Thanks in advance!! :slayer:

Common - unsure. I do have the same issue though on my 500.

I know that mine has the same, but it only seems to be a certain bass level that makes it vibrate. Also my A pillar speakers in front of you vibrate the same way. I assumed I'd blown a speaker or it was my replacment headunit. Although now I'm writing it off as just not brilliant speakers.

sigh...I was afraid of that. I was hoping if it was more common perhaps there is an easy hack to fix it. is it hugely difficult to remove the panel and have a look?

If you loved silence it wouldn't be a problem :p

Because getting to the rear speakers is a PITA.

1) ha.
2) at the risk of sounding lazy...is there a straightforward guide to removing said panel? is it even worth it? should I just accept my buzz / rattle as is?

Surely you can't be serious! (yes, I am serious...and don't call me Shirley )

Do you have the interscope option? Mine buzzed too from the rear panel and the amp for interscope is located there, mine was vibrating and I got it sorted under warranty, it is a pita to sort though and involves removing back seat and trim etc

Hi,

I had this problem with my 500 sport. I noticed it when I first bought it and same as you there was a buzzing with any bass. I found it to be the little plastic trim around the seat belt guide/hole at the bottom of the drivers seat belt. I ended up fixing in place with a little blue tack and that seemed to stop it vibrating. Might not be your problem but worth checking. :)

yesssss, i will definitely look at that tonight! See, these are the little things I would have never thought of that, that I was sure someone else had encountered.

I had that after replacing seatbelts. I had to remove the rear panel to do it and a couple of the clips had broken so with a bit of bass it vibrates. Try pushing the panel hard all around and see if you hear them push in a bit.

Awesome, will try that too. My one friend had a similar problem and suggested slamming a fist against it lol. brute force!
