General Wipers

Wipers are always a rip-off. I worked that out years ago.

Generally, all you need is new rubber inserts, and the rest of the wiper assembly is fine. The "mechanical" wipers tend to age and wear, and the clips and hinges loose stiffness and get all floppy, but the plastic ones - like on a 500 - will last for years and years. Maybe they'll get brittle and faded from sunlight, but they'll be fine for many many refills of rubber inserts.

Trouble is, the rubbers aren't always available as a separate thing, but they are available somewhere. Remember, the wiper manufacturers must buy the rubber by the mile in bulk on a big roll, and cut off what is required for each wiper.

The link I gave http://www.wiperblades.co.uk/accessories/refill-28/#search is the best I've found, but if I had a choice, I'd have bought both packets in one single 112" length.

The long one on a 500 is about 23" long, so that will use one from the packet. The short one and the one on the back, will take the other one .............. but I'll have bits left over. The other packet will wait for the future.

A tenner for wiper rubber that will last me some years is good value.

Regards,
Mick.

Just a little update.
I ordered the wiper rubbers on Thursday afternoon 9th Feb and paid £2.95 for 2nd Class postage.
They say on their website that it takes 4 to 6 days.
http://www.wiperblades.co.uk/delivery/

Got a note in the letter box on Saturday morning whilst we were out, the Royal Mail couldn't deliver because the package wouldn't fit in. Therefore the wipers arrived in less than 48hrs.

I'll go and collect from the sorting office tomorrow morning.

Regards,
Mick.

Bosch Aero Flatblades are the way to go, replace them every two years...

I very much disagree with you.

Keep an eye on your wipers, and replace the rubbers when they need it. Fitting new units is a waste of money and resources.

I collected my new rubbers from the sorting office this morning and replaced the rubber on the long front one, and then did the other one, plus the rear too.

They work very well although it's not rained here for a couple of weeks, so I used the washer to check them out.

These rubbers are described as Non Aero, but that isn't really correct. They are designed for standard wipers, but you can remove the plastic runner strip and extract the bare rubber wiper. The rear wiper is non-aero, so you need the plastic strip.

This it the long front wiper with new rubber. The off-cut is the piece left over from one 28" length.

Greetings,
Mick.

I'll stick to these, the best wipers available.
To each his own, but I don't want to fiddle around with so called "fillings" or whatever.
It's a matter of safety to me and my family......and as always, that comes with a cost, but I don't mind..

Safety???
I don't know what you mean.
If it's having good working wipers, I agree with you of course.

No fiddling as such.
Remove the front wiper assembly off the arm. Un-clip one end, slide out the old rubber and slide in the new. Replace the clip and replace the assembly. Simple.

The rear is even easier, you don't even have to remove the assembly off the arm.

Mick.

The new wiper rubbers are brilliant! (y)

Out driving in the rain today and yesterday. These rubbers are highly recommended.

Mick.
