Hi guys I have a 2010 60 plate Fiat 500 1.2 Pop and as far as I know it has no aux port and no blue and me? (There is no USB port so I can't buy the blue and me adaptor.)
I have seen threads where they suggest pulling the radio out and plugging in an aux cable (which I have purchased from eBay) round the back and then pressing CD twice. Does this work? I tried pressing CD twice and I got the 'not available' message and this is making me think that it won't work and I could possibly damage the radio which scares me. I also wouldn't know where to thread the wire through?
Is there any possible cords or upgrades I could get that would allow me to play music from my iPhone? Thanks so much for your help! :)

Hello and welcome .

Some folks with 500's without Blue&Me have managed to do this using an aftermarket lead plugged into the back of the head unit; whether or not this works seems to depend on the make and model of head unit actually fitted to your specific car.

If you can take out your radio and post a picture of the back of your head unit, someone who's actually done this may come along with further information.

If taking out your radio is too daunting for you, then your best bet is probably an FM transmitter. Another alternative is just to fit an aftermarket head unit which has the features you want.

Upgrading the standard fit system using OEM parts is both hugely difficult and hugely expensive, and not worth considering; it'd be cheaper to trade the car in for one with Blue&Me fitted.

Another workaround is to record some music onto a standard CD in mp3 format; you'd likely get somewhere between 10 & 20 hours music onto a CD this way, but could lead to some serious headbanging if you're phased by geeky technical computer stuff.

Hello! Wow! Thank you for your kind and prompt reply. All of your suggestions are brilliant! Where would I purchase an FM transmitter? Amazon? Also, do you know how they work as I have not heard of them before but they sound very useful! Thanks so much :)

Also, do you know how they work as I have not heard of them before but they sound very useful!

Simply stated, they take the standard audio output from the headphone socket of your iphone (or other device) and broadcast it on an unused FM radio frequency. This is picked up by your car's existing radio aerial and you just tune the car's radio into it as if it were just another radio station, so you can set one of the FM presets to it. No dismantling or modification required and you can easily take it with you into any car with a radio and a power socket.

You can buy them pretty much everywhere; a quick search of the internet for "iphone FM transmitter" should bring up a shedload of alternatives; I'd suggest you read a few reviews before purchasing.

You could start by reading this (a bit old now), or this (more recent but US based).

For the more technically minded, there are now gadgets available which plug into the power socket and broadcast FM from a Bluetooth A2DP connection, so no wires in the cabin.

IMO Fiat are still in the stone age as far as ICE is concerned.

I was looking at the touchscreen panel in a Tesla S the other day; all I can say is... WOW!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

The upside is that even if it doesn't work out too well, it's a cheap solution that doesn't require you to modify the car in any way, so it's far and away the lowest risk option.

Please come back and let us know what you bought and how it works in practice; anecdotally the biggest issue with these type of devices is interference as you move in and out of the different commercial radio transmitters coverage area. Some handle this better than others, but I don't have enough specific experience to be able to make a recommendation.

At the opposite end of the scale are two adapters 1 Xcarlink and 2 Denison Gateway both offer wireless music streaming, phone connection steering wheel control where fitted and with full control but are about £100+ though are plug and play and easily removed and sold on?

Update: The FM transmitter worked great for the first couple of days but once I unplugged it a few times as I wanted to just listen to the radio, on re connection it seems to be a little fuzzy. This has also impacted my radio which is now also fuzzy as well. Ugh! Does anyone know if this is common and whether it's an easy fix? To make matters much worse I have made a massive dent in my car along with some huge scratches which is estimated to cost £800 - £1,000 to repair. I cannot believe my luck! :(

I have a Fiat 500 2010 Lounge with blue and me and a windows USB port. I can call through it but not play any music does anyone know how I can play music?

Tbh in 2007 when the 500 launched, it was just fine, but things moved on very very quickly. My 2013 3 series is head and shoulders above the 500.

We had a Tesla Model 3 in at work the other day. The screen was cool as all, but the fit and finish on the exterior was dire, even for an American car.

Hey, the ramseyfiat website has a page which should help you regarding blue and me. Just google 'ramseyfiat blue and me'. If that still fails, buy an FM transmitter from Amazon. That's what I did and it works perfectly, plays crystal clear audio and when I unplug it, the normal radio works perfectly as well. I love my Fiat 500 so much, best car ever!
