But if you live in an area without street lights and you do park nose in on your drive it's extremely useful (y).

I live in a very rural area with no lighting, I park side on to my house and it's very useful. More than enough for me to find my front door key and get it in the hole (ooo er missus)

Spike

Pull the headlamp stalk towards you like you are flashing the lights, if the engine is off it will put the headlamps on for 30 seconds, any further pulls will add another 30 seconds.

Thank you. Will try this today.

This may help

Mine works ☺️

Does anybody have a link to any posts on Fiat 500 gears? Mine are always hard to get into 1st and 2nd gear (second especially, I quite often have to take it back to neautral then into 2nd to get it to work), and 3rd often feels like it's a bit tight to get in. 9/10 the problem is when my cars cold. Don't want to start a new thread for another wee issue but can't find one on 500s.

Check your clutch fluid level and slave cylinder (for leaks, under the battery on the gearbox) do you have any issues selecting gears when the engine is not running our gear stick is very fluid and slips in easily every time (generally )

Where's the clutch fluid level and slave cylinder to check? When the engines off it goes in totally fine, no issues at all.

Are any of these extremely expensive jobs?

Do fiat look at your car for free to indicate a problem, or do they charge too?

Have googled and found where the clutch fluid is and will check after work. Does this need to be checked when engines cold? Or after driving?

Hard to put car into gear is often a lack of clutch disengagement(as though you need to press the pedal more but can't), doubt its the clutch itself, so I'm guessing the slave cylinder(£17) or fluid/air in the system issue, will see if I have a photo but clutch fluid level is the small reservoir on the left looking to the rear against the bulk head with a pipe going off to the right. Can be checked at any time too

THank you. If the slave cylinder, is this a long job or is it easy for a garage to fix? Do they pick up on any of these at services? Service is in March so wondering whether it could be done then if that is issue. Thank you

Have taken a picture of (what I think?) is my clutch fluid... it looks quite full to me, even above in between min and max. It looks quite brown, is that the colour it's meant to be?

Please let me know if fluid looks wrong x

Does having the two little bottom ones and rear lights on dim not count? I.e. turning the switch when engine is off? Or is that something else?

I would believe what JR is referring to is that there isn't a way of using those with the engine running, so if you pull over to drop someone off against the flow of traffic everyone coming towards you gets their retinas scorched free of charge as you can't switch off DRLs or headlamps without switching the engine off and removing the key.

Yes, that's what I was asking before.
JR said that you can't have sidelights on, though the post has gone now.

Having the ability to go down to side lights but still with the engine running is a good idea. Yes, you can have them on with the engine switched off, but you need to have had the key and have the engine on and then switched off. You cannot turn on the side lights unless you have had the key turned on first. It annoys me that you can't have the sidelights on with a 500 unless you switch off the engine.

First car I have ever owned that I can't do it. IMHO, it's a serious disadvantage, especially if you read the Highway code Rule 114.

Just checked, went out ,unlocked the car ,tried turning on the side lights (without doing anything else ) and they turn on.

The drls go off when the headlights are on.
If of course they haven't been turned off in the menu, the number of 500's that have the drls off out number those with them on, crazy.(Daytime)

If I remember correctly before they were a legal requirement for type approval you could switch them off in the OBC. They removed that at a point I can't recall, but the point of my post was as long as the engine is on you have a set of bright lights on the front of the car regardless of what you do with the stalk.
