Hi Fran

Whats your history with the car?

A brief period of good running.. or niggles from day 1..??

Which end of A3
Winchester.. or Egham

Good FIAT specialist towards the western end ;)

But look at the register of MultiECUScan members..

A relearn with the correct kit might be all it needs :)

Charlie

I spend my week between M4 junctions :)

Hi Charlie, Owned for two years as a runaround - no problems - three long and high speed journeys in the last 8 months have resulted in this problem. I wanted the Stop & Start removed but this is not possible. It was the end of the A3 near Tolworth roundabout where I nearly got smashed into. I will defo look up a Fiat specialist. My new mechanic is putting new plug leads on tomorrow morning and we will test it on the way home from Crawley to Sutton. I will ask him about a new ECU. I can’t go to Wales for the time being due to lockdown now. sigh!

Im suspecting your 'misfire' is NOTHING to do with sparks..

It will be the engines sensors battling

Search 'small car services' on here..

He has a great reputation on FF :)

Just gone to have the leads changed,,,,,,time will tell. But thank you for all your advice, it is much appreciated.

thanks ever so much charlie, I shall definitely look them up.

I bought a Fiat 500L

Interesting to see the remarks about the ECU, cost wise I don't mind paying to feel safe in my car on long journeys as the husband does not like driving me to Wales. (n)

Seeing your other posts..

Worth checking the wiring to the tailgate..

The hatchback cars tend to have all manor of strange faults through the wires shorting out

Im not sure if the 500l suffers in the same way.. but well worth ruling out

Its a cheap and easy thing.

This car sounds like a flipping deathtrap!!

So which type of 500 do you have

Smaller..or bigger.. than a panda?

You said 500l

But with a 1242cc engine.. Im thinking its a baby one

This thread details some of the wiring related stuff..

Mine is not as bad as that described in the long post! My god if it was that bad i would drive it over a cliff! Not with me in it of course!

Daft idea, unplug the lambda sensor, drive it and see of it mis fires the EML light will be on, when it mis fires "normally" does the EML light flash at all whilst driving?
Oh heck I don't know what the EML light is! The thing is normal driving around town is fine, no problems at all! It's when it is on the motorway at high speeds it happens. But i will keep this in mind if I ever take it out again on the motorway.

There showed a problem on the LAMDA when my mechanic did the second diagnostic. I have a friend around the corner who has one of thesek diagnostic units and will ask him to check it.

Hi folks. I thought I might add a line or two about S/S flashing with ! and engine dragging at high speeds. I got onto one of those internet mechanics last night and this is what he said.
My cylinder 2 is always misfiring and causing the engine to drag.

The codes suggest the engine computer is detecting a misfire on cylinder 2 . A misfire is where the fuel and air mixture within the cylinder is not igniting correctly. Now, this can happen for a few reasons from fuel, spark, or compression problems. We can rule out the compression because the issue would be there all the time at all speeds. The ignition system that supplies the spark has already been replaced so the next logical step would be to at least swap the injector from cylinder two and see if the misfire follows the injector confirming its a fault before spending more money on parts that are not required.

This is my next step, after that I will use the car as runaround and nothing more.

The average cost for the part is around £120 plus around £50 to fit.

I asked why the Stopstart system played up and this was his reply.
The stop-start system is turned off as soon as any fault like this is detected because the system doesn't want to turn the engine off if it's unsure it will be able to restart.
