How many miles has the car done?

I'm thinking it may just be a sticking brush, in which case removing the starter, dismantling and cleaning may be all that is needed; that will cost you nothing but your time. It could also be a sticking solenoid (they're integral with the motor on most cars these days); the same comment applies.

Starters and alternators can often be made good as new just by cleaning and replacing the brushes for a fraction of the cost of a service exchange unit.
The car has done 73k miles. I've watched a few YouTube videos regarding cleaning. How hard can it be? Lol. I've also ordered a full service manual CD and I'll maybe get some ramps as jacks and axel stands aren't ideal.

I'm always willing to give things like this a go. Worst case scenario is a new/reconditioned one will need to be fitted.

My goto mechanics workshop is 200m down the road so worst case scenario is the car gets pushed down the road and John fixes it for me.
