My latest edition a 1.2 lounge runs like a dream however when the engine is cold, it pulls away fine, but when in second gear it jerks about 4 times as I accelerate. The engine doesn't seem hesitant at all, it's just the jerkiness.

I was going to try changing the spark plugs and air filter but I was wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar and whether it could be something more sinister?

I've still got this problem. I'm going to sort out the plugs on Thursday but I think it's not running right even when warm. It's not holding back as such but very very slightly jerky, normally when your possibly on slightly too high a gear. Someone mentioned could be a sensor, could these symptoms be one of the oxygen sensors? I recall one of the readings on the mot was borderline on the limit.

Any ideas

Plugs would be my first thought regarding the hesitation; the borderline emissions reading is more likely down to a failing O2 sensor (most likely the upstream one before the cat).

I'd say you're thinking along the right lines. Start by changing the plugs (probably worth doing on acquisition of any secondhand 500 unless you're certain it's been done very recently) and take it from there.

Yeah I've changed 2 of 4. Had the stubborn plug lead plus the plug I dropped down the gap so i have got to change those two still. I'm hopi g it may sort it. I'm tempted to buy an o2 sensor and just try it if the OK gas do t sort it. The upstream one is the one just behind the radiator?

Yup.

For 1.2 500's manufactured after 11/08, the part number is NGK OZA629-A2. The upstream and downstream sensors are identical, so if they can be removed without too much difficulty, you could try swapping them to see if it makes any difference.

Managed to get the other stubborn plug lead off using the wiggle it method, changed the other two plugs and also changed the top oxygen sensor and is now all running like a dream. Both plugs, in fact all four plugs and the O2 sensor were both looking on the brown side, so I don't know if it was a combination of both, but thankfully, all running well.

Thanks all for your help.
