Technical ABS not working, but no warning or failure lights...!

When we got our car last year it had 3 makes of tyre and 4 levels of tread, even though they were all legal I took the decision to replace all the tyres, not having loads of money I got 4 Yokohama@£40 each, cheap ones were £30(Revelo) and Goodyear £55, £40-100 difference might be the difference between a wreck and a safe outcome.

It might be worth checking the calipers to see if there's anything amiss before deciding the abs is not working but not showing a fault?

First step is to dismantle, clean & lubricate the front brakes as described in the thread I linked to in a previous post. On the 500, dragging brakes are more likely to be due to the pads sticking in the reaction frames than the calipers.

If there is any doubt regarding the condition of either discs or pads, then you can buy both together from the factors for about the price of a tank of fuel.

Will ask my local trusted indy to do this - I don't have the tools or the time!

I'll post back and let you know how it went / what happens next.

Our car is fitted with the Revelo tyres, and they are appalling. Stamping the brakes and the car is all over the place, and it's not even slowing down much. No grip or road holding at all, and they drone at 70mph.

will get the brakes dismantled, cleaned and refitted, I'll test again, and let you know the outcome. Then I'll stick 4 new Goodyear Efficient-grips on the car.

hello, did you ever got this fixed as my GF 1.3 multijet seems to be suffering form the same issues. Tyres are not cheap and they are still good

I wouldn't bother with the above... I slid a 3 month old 3000 mile 500 twinair into a back of van... Stood on the brakes and all four wheels locked with no sign of the ABS! Had the factory fitted tyres and nothing wrong with the brake calipers. To be fair, fully functioning ABS would not have stopped me hitting this van. Yet the ABS on our current 500c is sensitive.
