So it's been asked before on here but found no response, and given it's been 6 years, there's probably someone who knows now.

So, the black strip on the rear bumper shown below - does it come off? Screws? Or is it bonded or something? Anyone have any idea?

Don't have access to a jack to look myself.

Here's a thread from the past, which just might get you started.

First step is probably to remove the bumper to get a proper look at what's going on. This is much easier with two people, and a blanket on the ground, which is starting to sound like a bad country song...

Fab, thank you, I couldn't find that thread for the life of me! Think I read chrome and skimmed it. Will take a look!

I tried to get the chrome one off if a lounge bumper. It was already damaged but I made the damage even worse.

Ah crap, and you're like our resident go to guy for disassembly.

I've had a look today (As best I could) and decided it's gonna be too difficult. Not sure it's worth it either, given I only wanted to vinyl wrap the black stripe.

Hey, do you still want to do this. I've found somewhere to get these parts for a tenner!!! I'm going to order some other stuff from them so I could get you one if you still wanted to do it. It wouldn't matter then if you broke the old one.

Let me know ASAP as will be ordering within the next couple of days.

Hiya,

That's a really kind offer, but after looking at the threads and stuff I think I've wimped out of it! I've got such heavy hands, I can just see myself damaging the bumper and god knows what else in the process!

Does it damage just the strip, or the bumper too?

Assuming that strip is held on the same way as all the other strips, there will be slots in the bumper and the strip has tabs that push into the holes. Take the big chrome ones on the front for instance. I actually took a set of these off today. If you get a flat head screwdriver carefully in the centre end you can gradually prise it out. I don't think you would ever damage the bumper doing this. It could also be held on with sticky double sided tape too. I would have a little gentle prise!
