My daughter has a 2016 1.2 Pop Star.

We came back from a two week holiday to find that the struts would no longer hold the weight of the boot/hatch when open.

Dealer was excellent in sorting the issue but we wondered if other owners had experienced this?

I haven't had an issue in warmer weather, but did have a similar issue on my wife's Doblo and my BMW within weeks of each other last winter. The tailgates on both refused to stay up and I ended up changing the struts on both cars. I put it down to age or the oil failing due to higher viscosity being cold, as both are 2008 cars. But yours is both a new car and it's warm, so bang goes that theory.

No, I can't remember anyone else reporting this. Could be a single faulty strut as one may not hold the tailgate on its own. Had to replace the struts on my Mini when it was 6 years old, but our 500 is fine at a similar age.

Hi, yep we have the same problems on a 2008 MJTD. Was working fine until we had a broken cable fixed in the hatch (ever heard of that problem lol). When we tried the boot a week later it wouldnt stay up. Now we cant accuse the guy who fixed the cable of breaking the struts cos we didnt open it straight away, coincindence? either way I'm going to have to replace them. I think they just prise off and clip back on, hopefully not too expensive but just another repair in a growing list

Nothing is perfect and the occasional problem will occur.
Sgs-engineering.com
UK company making gas struts of all kinds.
Fantastic and reasonably priced , fast postage.
I'm not connected to this company but they provided fantastic service to friend of mine.
Use them keep money in UK while there are still some manufacturers in UK.

Thanks for the link. Yep keeping British companies going is important, especially when they are competitive;:)
