Ok, before I go ripping my daughters 500 to bits, she recently had a black box fitted, prior to that, no warning lights or messages from the vehicle, however, since having it fitted the dash displays "warning insufficient brake fluid do not drive" warning comes up, it may be totally coincidental but ... I have checked the brake fluid and its topped up, I have checked for the infamous dropped float rubber thing in the brake reservoir thing and nothing, even changed the sensor thing that's on the side of the reservoir for a new Fiat part, still no joy, i took the car to our local mechanic for stored faults and came back all clean, I have also checked the plug and wiring to the reservoir and have continuity, logically it could only be a fault in the passenger foot well area where the engineer fitted the black box, so next step is to check wiring loom for any niks in the cabling he may have made - question is does any one have any experience in this fault ? tia

You haven't stated the model year of the car. Is it safe therefore to assume that the vehicle is well outside of warranty?

Also, if the problem presented itself immediately after the black box was fitted, what about getting the company who fitted the box to come back and check they haven't cut something they shouldn't have or wired something in, incorrectly causing the issue.

Hi sorry, it's a 61 plate 1.2 Lounge - yes well out of warranty - I called them back and they have had a look to double check connections or niks in cables, all looks good - my other thought was if they did curable accidentally shorted something, then that would make it almost an impossible task without taking to Fiat dealer

Quite possibly. Fiat will have diagnostic kit that should be able to pick up the fault that normal High Street garages might not be able to access. It'll cost you though, unless of course you get the car serviced by them and they'll include diagnostics as part of the service. The benefit of doing this, is the car will get any software updates too. £150 for a oil and filter change and a general health check might seem steep, but if the car hasn't had a Fiat once over for quite some time, it might be worth it.

Thanks frupi, I fear you may be correct, either way if it is that, the black box company can have that bill

Yes, not entirely sure, the boss who came second time round said he checked the initial guys connection to which ever cable and said it was connected correctly, Fiat it may be then

Hi, :)
it's certainly an odd one..,:chin:

is the message on constantly,
or just under certain circumstances..?

when you do the dash's "self-test" ,does the yellow brake fluid light self-test..??

shame the 2nd guy didn't disconnect briefly - just to see what happened to the message:eek:

Hi Charlie, the message comes on every time the ignition is turned on, it's the red brake warming symbol, same one as for the handbrake, I have personally disconnected the tracker but still no joy, fault is still there, as said before he may have shorted something and goosed it, looks like hello Fiat !
