Advisory notice item(s)
nearside front Macpherson strut corroded but not seriously weakened upper securing device & support corroede (2.4.G.1)
offside front Macpherson strut corroded but not seriously weakened upper securing device & support corroded (2.4.G.1)

How much would it cost to sort these out? I'm looking to buy a car but it has come up with these advisories and want to know how much I would have to look to spend?

Hi, and welcome:)

to be perfectly frank;
those are "normal", and are unlikely to currently effect the safety of the car,

they are "advisory" because the garage are just making you aware that they will need attention in the future..
could be 10 weeks - could be 10 years.

budget £100 / £200 for the job,
here is the basics of the task for whoever does the job-

I wouldn't be too concerned about those advisories either.

You could well take it to a different garage next year and they wouldn't mention it. Dependent on the garage I'm always a little suspicious of these, they are easy money generation for some places.

On the other hand I can identify with the advisory ours are "shocking " so rusted one is leaking, struts are £110 for decent ones(pair) IF that's all they replace plus fitting probably another £150
I should add given the state of those bits I've also got new springs(£50), drop links(£22) and top suspension cups(£22), bump stops(£22)
What year are you looking at? we got our 59 plate last year, the garage changed the oil pan, battery and front discs before we got it, I've changed the rear drums(brakes) wiper blades both front lower control arms, service items, breather pipes which had failed and have still to do the struts all in all about £700 in parts, including things like mats, new badges, remote key fob cover, stickers, upgraded headlight bulbs, etc to make it as good as new for my wife, have to say you would not know its age if you looked at it with its personalized plate.

This is why I never take any my cars to places offering a half price MOT , or garages who do there own repair work.

I absolutely couldn't agree more. This is precisely the reason why using local Council MOT test centres is a wise choice. They are totally independent, cannot do any repair work and cannot recommend any garages to get rectification work done. They still offer a free retest within ten days and you can still appeal if you think they've got it wrong. So yes, they may charge full price for the MOT, but at least you know they're being 100 percent impartial.

Recently, I had a forum member on a completely different forum take their own car to a Council MOT test centre. They failed the car on a worn ball joint. The car owner then took the car back to their local dealership as it was under a 5 year warranty. Dealership fixed the car foc and the Council test centre issued a pass certificate. (y)

Yes, I'm always a bit suspicious of discounted MoT prices - they must make next to nothing even on the £54. However, I do use a local place that also does repairs and servicing, and haven't had a failure or advisories yet (even, this week on my 18 year old MX5) so they aren't all bad.

I use our local Kwik Fit they seem OK but have passed my car in the past with a broken coil spring that you could see just looking under the wheel arch!
I think if you know what you're doing re fixing the car then its OK to use garages that discount as you can check their noted faults.
