:) I've been following this forum for a few weeks, so thought I would ask my first question!

i bought a beautiful 1.2 lounge in April and had Sat Nav & DAB added as an extra.

When I use DAB it either cuts out constantly or has a bubbling sound in the background. I thought I was in a bad reception area but a couple of friends also purchased new cars just before me (a VW & Citreon) and both of them have perfect radio signal wherever they are.

Before calling the garage, I thought I would find out if anyone else has had this issue & if anything can be done to rectify it?

Many thanks

DAB - the future! Sadly, based on how clever it is, rather than its quality. The ability to broadcast more channels, brings more revenue to the government, so the driving force is not our benefit.

When the signal is good, the quality is good. As the signal is lost, it does tend to just cut out completely, and later just reappear, unlike FM that fades and crackles. Occasionally the bubbling sound is the DAB equivalent of FM crackle. Until you get used to it you'll keep thinking the car is broken.

If you have a poorer signal than your friends, with the cars sat together, then document this. Note where you lose the signal. Get a friend, or two to follow, and stop and compare reception. With this evidence, return to the dealer and complain. Hopefully it is just simple poor aerial connection issue, or a poor head unit and replacement will cure it. If it is a design issue, car or head unit, then the dealer can't cure it, so ask for a refund, at least of any DAB premium.

That's a great idea, thank you! I've just been on holiday with one of my friends using her car & she didn't lose the signal once in 180 miles! I'll ask her to follow me around our local area to get some proof it's not working, then will go to the garage armed with the details.

Thanks again

Have you got something plugged in the cigarette lighter? Some cheap electricals a can interfere with radio signal.

Although I use the USB to charge my phone occasionally, I haven't plugged anything else in. The reception is just as bad, even when my phone isn't charging!
