Hi all,

I'm looking to buy a second-hand 500 however would only like one with buttons on the dash not the knobs. I'm hoping someone can explain which model has the buttons to make my search easier.

Many thanks in kind!

Hello and welcome...

The "Pop" model has knobs for the air con / heater, the "Lounge" model has buttons, not sure about the other variations.

If you look on the Autotrader website at the 500's for sale, each car usually has an interior shot so you can have a look at which do or don't.

Hope this helps!!

Thanks for the reply. I have seen the Pop always has knobs, but more Lounge's than not also seem to have knobs. Why do some have the buttons?

Cars with automatic climate control have buttons, those with manual A/C (or no A/C) have knobs.

All Lounge models have A/C as standard, but only some have Climate - that was an extra (except on the later ones, when it was standard for a time with the TA engine, but not any more).

Brilliant! Thanks for that info. It has been so hard to find. So, I'm looking for automatic climate control (y)

Thanks Scout.

I was looking to buy a used car, so that seriously limited my button options. But they are defo on my must have list for my next car haha

The lounge with the twinair engine comes with climate control as standard.

The current model TA lounge is shown on configurator as having manual A/C as standard (in both 85HP & 105HP form); climate control is available as an option for an additional £270.

Climate isn't available, not even as an option, on the current Pop & PopStar trim level cars.

In the days when the TwinAir was a trim level as well as an engine, IIRC the TwinAir Plus might for a time have been sold with climate as standard.

From some of the posts I've read from folks who've had their climate fail (the franchised dealer repair cost is truly insane (n)), I'd say if you plan on owning the car out of warranty, you're better off without it.

For the first month or two after the TwinAir engine was launched, all Lounges still came with manual aircon, but Fiat soon changed this so that if you ordered the TwinAir Lounge, you got climate control thrown in. I think the change happened about the same time that they phased out the Sport spec in favour of the TwinAir & TwinAir+ specs, and stopped offering the Pop model with the TwinAir engine.

Basically it should just be some 11 or 61 plate TA Lounges, plus the most recent models from 15 plate onwards (from when Fiat introduced PopStar & Cult trims) that don't have climate control on the TwinAir Lounge model. All 2012, 2013 & 2014 models should have it.

Welcome to the wonderful World of Fiat spec levels!

Seems like my question was more complex than I imagined.

Thanks for all the answers, everyone.
