Hi all,

Apologies if posted in the incorrect place.

I picked up my new 500 on Sunday and am slightly confused about Uconnect! The guy at the dealership told me I can connect my phone, which we did when I collected it and that I would be able to make calls/receive and send texts on the screen. However, whenever I have been sent a text it has not worked and if I try to send one it says my phone is incompatible. I have an iPhone 6, and having spoken to Fiat on Twitter, they said the iPhone 6 is compatible and have taken my registration too to ensure all is compatible. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I know it isn't the end of the world, but just a bit of a shame to be told it does it and then it not work!

Thanks in advance :)

Do not text while driving = )

I don't :) This service reads the text message out loud for you whilst driving and also lets you reply via voice recognition.

Please let us know how the voice recognition is! I tried it and gave up quickly, but then again I have the old generation blue and me (2010 version)

Well, it recognises what I say e.g. go to phone, call.... but it doesn't understand the names! I said "home" and it gave me a list of about 20 different contacts that were all named and didn't include home! Same with a name, it gave me a list with 3 people, 2 of which had the same surname as the person I wanted to ring, but the actual person I wanted to ring didn't show up! Gave up since then. Should probably give it another go!

Have you connected with a cable or set it all up on Bluetooth ?

Anyway with crap voice recognition on cars you're far better off saying 'hey Siri' and the phone takes over the voice functions.

Yeh the basic parrot system I had in my last car activated Siri by default, it was great and Siri has much better voice recognition plus it allows you do everything from make a call to read a text and even check the weather, not that well up on UConnect but blue and me is pretty dreadful. You can still use Siri via B&M but you have to activate it on your phone not on the steering wheel unfortunately.

If it's anything like blue&me then yes, the iPhones are compatible with the system for voice calls. The incoming text reader has never been compatible though.
Windows phones, even old Nokia Symbian phones all work fine, but Apple stuff, no. I'm unsure on Android?

I'm sure I read it was a security thing, stopping someone else in a following car for instance pairing with your phone and then listening to your txt msg.
Totally unlikely scenario as you have to usually enter pins etc during pairing.

Apple have always been very controlling over their phones, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was them rather than fiat who were blocking the sms reader?

I did switch to windows phone once thinking it would be better and more compatible with the blue&me. Whilst the sms reader worked great, audio integration was awful. Podcasts would only play through the phones speaker and albums and folders were all over the place. On top of that, I'd have to plug and unplug my phone repeatedly to get it to even play. Apple is great for all of that, 'it just works'

I wonder if the uconnect is all fixed with windows phone in that regard?
I suppose I'll have to upgrade to a new 500 if I want to find out? :p

Ps, I promise that's my last upgrade joke Mercky, I've flogged that one to death!

I suspect Apple CarPlay is probably the only system that'll integrate properly with iOS. It's high time it was all standardised a bit better, it's crazy that you pay can thousands for a new car, not necessarily only a fiat, to find your phone doesent work properly. I did think UConnect was more compatible with iOS though, considering Beats Audio whose option is available in the 500L is owned by Apple.

It is set up with Bluetooth. Fiat got back to me and said it isn't compatible with iPhone (after saying it was) and apparently it is something they're working on. We'll see! I've just been using Siri as a few of you have recommended.
