Styling Bossa Nova White Paint Codes

Well we painted the cars yesterday, curiously it matches my car perfectly, where my code is 268. However it didn't match my dad's car, which is in fact 268/A. After using some rubbing compound it has blended in but up close it is still completely different on the Abarth,

No they are not. What's strange like I mentioned above is the simple fact that my 500 is 268, the 268/A touch up pen matches perfectly. The Abarth is 268/A and it doesn't match. Very odd!

Paint does have various shades of the same colour, some whites have up to 14 shade variances of the same colour code.
Good auto paint suppliers have colour swatches that they place on your car to get the exact colour, they then mix the paint to the correct quantities to match your car. This can even match up weathered paint.
Paint will always look different when painted on metal or plastic panels due to their different properties, although certain colours can be a better match than others.
Also the basecoat can result in the topcoat having different shades, as well as the temperature and length of time the paint is baked at. Even humidity at the time can result in shade variances.
I used to work for a company that imported fibreglass canopies for pick up trucks from the USA, and we did have to get some painted in colours that weren't available in the US. It was while doing this that I learnt about how different the "same colour" of paint could be, even a vehicle being made in different countries in the same colour can result in the shades being different.
The only way to get as close a match as possible is to have the paint mixed specifically for your car, and that's achieved by using an auto paint supplier who has a good selection of colour swatches.
