Nope, would rather have the mini any day. Especially as the mini comes with a variety of engines more powerful than 105hp

:yeahthat: As fond as I am of the cute and stylish Fiat, the mini is mechanically and dynamically a far superior car (I've driven one and been a passenger in several).

One of the few things they have in common is that they both ridiculously ubiquitous.

The 500 comes with more power in the Abarth.I dont see many Abarths on the road maybe they should be sold by all Fiat dealers.

Hard to tell definitively as haven't test driven one of the new ones yet.

The interior does look a tad nicer, however the problem that both me and my wife have is the front grille.

In fact, she really dislikes it, so much so that she won't be buying a new shape one in future. So it will be interesting to see what other people make of the new one.

On a positive note, I had read somewhere that Volare Blue was going to get the chop. The new configurator suggests otherwise, it does still seem to be available for the new model. So that is good.

I mean the Abarth 500s have more power than the 105 twinair, not the JCW or Beetle.

I'm not full bottle on UK pricing and specs, but over here by the time you tick a few options on a base Mini, you can go out and buy an Essessse, in which case you would have to be very sad indeed to pick a Mini for it's 26 litres of extra boot space :D

At least you admit to being sad.

From what I understand, given how small they are, there's a useful amount of space. I recall seeing Tom Ford road testing the 500 on Fifth Gear, and I'm sure he said that even he could fit in the back.
i cant at all. Its mainly my head hitting the roof thats the problem at 6ft 3 even if i 'cut my legs off or put my legs on the side', which I assume cant really be safe!

the essese most likely doesnt have as good handling as the mini.

Do people pay list on Minis?

When I specced mine in 2011 I was offered a measly discount with silly prices, mine came to over 18K that was over eighteen thousand pounds. Agreed there were some options added. I just tried the mini configurator and prices are above £21k !! This is where you need the ROFL icon.

Went for a TA instead and spent about £150 for rear loom fix.

edit : don't need a new forum for the new 500

You will pay close to list price, and it's best to view the Mini as a small BMW you need to add options to it, which can make it very expensive but it is high quality.

I don't think you could really call it a city car anymore.

Plus i also don't think we need a separate forum

Fiat have always been crap with facelifts. Personally I don't like it. Way too much sh*t going on at the front. Rear lights just look like something is missing. Sort of works on red where you don't notice the big hole too much. Infofacetwittertainment system looks gross. Lastly well overpriced entry price at nearly 11 grand.

We have looked at Minis several times since they came out.But always end up going for another car ranging from two 500s to a TT.Once you add the required "extras" and no or very little discount they become too expensive and you are into a higher model price bracket. We are looking at Minis again to replace the 500 but its going to be at least £16K plus after "extras".

I remember Top Gear magazine running 1: I can't remember what model it was, but including options, it would've cost £25k to buy...

Mini do a lot of special editions if you buy one preregistered you can get a lot of car for your money.

Our cooper hatch was a few months old BMW owned. 4000 miles on the clock. It was used in London by BMW during the Olympics. It came in at £16k with full leather 17" special edition wheels. Chrome pack inside and out, Cruise control climate control 1600 diesel with the high end mini connected multimedia system if it was spec'd like this from brand new it would have been £24k

Magazines always do that, spec the cars with just about ever option possible to the extent that any private buyer would be nuts to go for the same. You never get anything close back at resale time.

I don't get the comparison to the Mini, ok it's supposed to be retro (I'm sure Sir Alec Issigonis would be turning in his grave if he saw the bloated freak that the Germans have turned it into) but that's it. It's not really a competitor on price or target buyers. Having said that they do drive well and I've thought of one every now and again.

The reason I originally compared the 500 to the mini is because people are saying how awful the facelift 500 is, and I said they need to keep it in perspective: look how hideous the mk3 bmw "mini" is.

Looks are a matter of opinion and we know your opinions differ wildly from the rest of society. That aside its all kinda irrelevant as the look of the mini doesn't matter to fiat buyers however if fiat buyers don't like the look of a fiat then that becomes a problem especially as the look of the 500 is what made it so popular.

Mini likes to stick two fingers up to its critics and prove their cars on motor sports and set world records they're not as reliant on their looks.

What does make me laugh is when somebody I know who owns a real Mini sees a bmw mini and says they would burn them all if they could, lmao!

Wanting to burn things is generally a problem with mental illness, you probably should suggest he see a doctor rather than laugh.

That said having owned a GP I'd quite happily see them all cubed, love our little mini wouldn't change it for... Well anything other than another mini.
