Hi everyone

Just a quick question regarding coolant on a 1.3 diesel 500

I topped my washer bottle up and noticed the coolant tank was hot, is this normal after 6 miles?

It also appears to be a browny colour , although its not overheating or anything and looks like no white sludge in the oil either, temp gets upto half way as usual

Thanks in advance

Factory coolant was always a reddish-brown colour (from the anti-freeze/anti corrosion additives) on mine.

Hot coolant after 6 miles is fine.

Nothing to worry about.

Thank you so much for the response :)

hi chaps! happy new year!
as most of you know im a keen under bonnet checker! I have a little niggle with my coolant! it may be nothing but..... if it is I wanna be on it!

service n mot last aug ...my coolant had dropped a little after so I topped up to the max mark....all good...then just before Christmas I noticed the coolant had dropped a little under the max mark, not much but being paranoid about coolant I worried a little...googled and read after a good few cold nights it can drop a little.

so I left it alone and all absolutely fine... a little time after I noticed the coolant had risen back to the max mark!!?weird ok! that was a few weeks ago yesterday I noticed that its now just peaking (very very slightly)over the max mark!

could it be air in the system? ive just noticed some white/cream build up on the thermostat chalky like crud could that be a small leak?its where the big rubber pipe attaches!
could be worrying over nothing but then again.....

Hi,
It could very well be caused by changes in the abient temperature and atmospheric pressure. Do not worry about it.
Cheers Jack
