This has happened to my exhaust today. Is it something I need to have checked out or is it wear and tear? I have a 5 year old fiat 500

Hi,

normal, - the exhaust has 2 x layers / skins,
a lot of panda owners "peel" it back so it looks tidier,

Agreed. Just peel it off and you'll get another year or so out of the box.

My Marea had the same issue. I cut the flap off and it passed another 3 MOTs with no problem. I think the second skin was a noise reduction measure. It would only fail the MOT if there was a risk of it falling off.

General corrosion, but I'm sure salt on the roads does not help. The outer "wrap" on my Marea rear box seemed to be made from lower grade steel than the main body an was softer. This may have been deliberate as softer metal generally has better sound proofing qualities.

Interesting.. Because we have several 7 year old fiats here in Australia and the exhausts in these are in great condition!!

One of the 500 did 140,000 kms.

Australia and the UK. Well known for their similar climates.

Not sure is serious.. Totally different. Especially winters.
