Sorry if this has been raised before , but I am trying to diagnose a car from 700 miles away while my not terribly mechanically minded son looks at his girlfriends 13 plate 500 Lounge 1.2l.
It seems the Stop Start not available , the Engine fault light and the yellow triangle light on. the car also seems down on power.
The obvious answer is to take it to a Fiat dealer and get them to check it , but If anyone can shed some light as to what the problem may be and any solutions that would be great.

Thanks

Hi - could be almost anything,
however a basic power issue could be it,

easiest would be disconnect battery negative lead for an hour, then reconnect, and see what happens, may well helps some "fussy electronics" get back in order,

are you in north Shropshire..??

Hi, and welcome, :)
best bet is to get a Fault Code Reader connected to the car ( port in cabin fusebox);)

that's the most scientific.. but a power-off reset may get things back - but without a "diagnosis",

I have an error code reader, unfortunately it is with me in France and the car is in Hertfordshire

.
It's Okay to disconnect the negative? I have been reading through tech forums for a couple of hours now and I recall something about Intelligent battery systems or something and not disconnecting ( of course I cant find that now!)
Give me a 50 year old VW any day, I understand those!

Thanks

Jerry

There should be a quick-release disconnector on the neg terminal on the battery.
Disconnect it and go for a beer/cup of tea/sandwich/walk the dog.
Re-connect it.
This cures many ills.

When you connect it, it's quite likely that the problem may have gone and all you will have to do is reset the date and time.

Good luck,
Mick.

We had the battery on charge, and had it up to full charge. The disconnect thing didn't work, still got error lights

Yes I know, it is just one of those "couldn't happen at a more inconvenient time" things. I believe she is taking it to a garage today, hopefully they can sort her without too much expense.

Not a helpful answer but my 2012 85bhp TA has had a new clutch switch and battery but the S/S still only cuts out on high days and holidays. The Fiat dealership say they can't replicate the fault at all. Very frustrating. If it's supposed to work all the time, then I WANT it to work all the time!!
