Hi guys, just a quick one. My start stop light is on along with a small triangle with an exclamation mark in the centre (see PIC). It is a 2011 twinair and it runs very jerky in low gears (more than standard). Once in the higher gears it seems fine and the lights reset and dissapear when you restart the car.Although the warning lights go out it still runs very jerky. The warning lights only come on after about 18 to 20 miles driving. Looking at the manual it gives a hell of a lot of possibilities so I was hoping someone may know of a common fault, I've done a search but only found a thread on the punto forum which sounds similar but not identical (clutch switch?)
Thanks in advance

Hi,
plug into diagnostic port. the fault code will tell a tale, ;)
sounds like you've a dodgy sensor of some sort..

out of interest when did you last bench charge the battery..?,

Hi, yes I will get a diagnostic done but was trying to avoid the cost if it was a quick fix.
I've never bench charged the battery as I never do short journeys and to be honest never thought of doing so. I shall give it a go and see what happens, thanks

Hi,
this is the machine I've got, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vgate-Sca...514?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item4ab80a7342
only used on VAG and Fords though.. BUT should work on EVERY car..!!

the basic readers are like this though.. much cheaper http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OBD2-U480...640?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item4636332e90
#IF you were nearer to me I'd do it for free,
Charlie - Oxford

Could be a faulty ignition coil. I've blown two of those. Although in my case they failed completely so the car was running only on 1 cylinder (sounds kinda like a big dirt bike).

Your problem seems intermittent so it might be something else. I'm still guessing it is a coil and your scanner will show codes P0301 or P0302 indicating misfire in one of the cylinders.

Just a quick update, I have bought an OBD2 diagnostic reader to scan for a fault but it says there is no fault codes stored.
I have replaced the battery with an OEM from euro car parts which has solved the jerky aspect but the warning triangle and start stop light still illuminate after 20miles.

The scanner only works with the ignition on the first click. The trouble I have is when the engine is turned off the lights go out, so when I turn the key to position 1 the lights are not illuminated for the scanner to detect.
Is it something I'm doing?

Although there are no warning lights illuminated directly after key-on, errors that occurred earlier should have been stored when they occurred and therefore still be available for reading out with your scan tool.

With the new battery the lights illuminated again after 20 miles. Did the jerky running return at that same moment? What happened during the next trip? Did the lights illuminate again after 20 miles or much earlier? If they illuminated much earlier, then you might have an alternator problem.

To the OP, coils definitely worth checking out / replacing as it was a common fault on early TA's

When my coil went it didn't illuminate any warnings lights.

When I had my TA had the coils replaced under warranty, no warning lights, just a rotten lumpy driving experience.

Right.....finally got this sorted out so thought I'd update people.

1. Broken clutch pedal !!!!!!
(Now welded back together)

2. Broken clutch switch (replaced)

3. Clutch slave cylinder had a bad leak. (Replaced)

It's a miracle it drove at all.

Why are clutch pedals breaking?
No other car I've owned in 16years of driving has ever had that happen. I assume something in the design is causing a stress point?
Reading the forum it seems quite common, its mental!!!

Hi I think I have the same problem... Approximately how much did you pay for 1,2 and 3

Thanks in advance

What messages come up on the dash display at start up or immediately the warning appears?
It's not all the time but the start / stop plus amber warning triangle..

After reading this post I have now looked at the peddle and think I can see the problem .

There seems to be a spigot that connects to the clutch start/stop switch.. this spigot is not secure it just moves about.. I'm not 100 % sure what it's supposed to be connected to .. maybe the clutch peddle... It's all so enclosed under there it's difficult to tell☹️
