General Brakes - any complaints?

General Brakes - any complaints?

Got a Fiat 1.2 pop with small solid discs. Braking is fine. I just need to be careful of not over heating them especially downhill.

Don't all 500's have Emergency Brake Assistance, where the ECU recognises that you are performing an emergency stop and boosts braking pressure to stop you more quickly. You can tell when it's kicked in because it flashes the hazard warning lamps to alert other drivers.

I didn't think it did (possibly it does in the US market?).

AFAIK hazards indicate hard braking; often the guys track daying them would ask if they could be disabled.

Fiat Doblo 2011 1.6 diesel - The vehicle still has it's original tyres after 28000 miles of driving which demonstrates very careful driving, however, after 28000 of very careful driving the vehicle needs new front discs and pads at a cost of £249.46, because the discs have worn out. How have the discs worn out after 28000 of very careful driving, mostly on the Somerset Levels, if the components are not faulty or are they made of
chocolate? - the vehicle has no tow bar by the way. Other vehicles where the driver is equally as careful you would expect at least twice if not three times the mileage. Our Skoda discs and pads have completed 60,000 and just passed another MOT without issue. (n)

Did the dealer tell you they need replacing or have you measured them yourself?

The dealer and another garage have said the warning light will be on shortly and have recommended replacement now :( Another garage has said wait for the warning light.

my fiat pads wore out the fiat discs more than my bosch discs and pads have done so so far. could be a factor that OEM discs wear out quicker with the OEM pads.

The light comes on when the pads are worn, even carefully driven you've done well to get 28k.

The discs however shouldn't be that worn from your description. It suggests to me that the garage is trying it on. Who'd have thought such a thing:eek:(n)

Btw changing pads is very simple. Maybe 30 minutes each side for a diy, on your drive job. A garage should do them in 30 minutes for both sides.

I just had the original brake pads and rotors replaced after 75,000 km (46,600 miles) on my 1.2 Lounge. Brakes had been feeling somewhat spongy lately, now they are sharp again.
