I love chrome but even I know too much of a good thing is, well, too much, however, I can't decide whether or not to add an A-bar. I really like them and wondered if they have a chav status amongst the 500 community... or what? Your (polite) opinions, please?

One man's ferret is another man's polecat. You should bling your car with whatever YOU like. Don't worry about what others think lol!

Of course, when you come to sell, as long as you've not done anything ridiculous to your car which might affect reseale value, then adding something like an A- bar, it isn't going to be an issue.

Just remember though, and yes, I can hear the groans already....anything additional that you add to your car you need to inform your insurer about if it wasn't on the car as standard, even badges (yes, even those of you who have stuck on the Twinair badge that wasn't on the car when you bought it!), so the addition of even genuine Fiat chrome items should be declared as it will in some insurers eyes, be classed as a modification. In short, anything at all which makes it look more interesting to steal, should be declared.

I've declared additional stuff on my Saab such as parking sensors, air scoop grille etc, and it hasn't added to my premium.

Thanks Frupi. It didn't occur to me that my insurer should know about anything stuck on but a good and valid point!

No problem. Most people would never bother telling their insurer in the mistaken belief that even though the bits stuck on are original manufacturer items, that it might not make a difference. If it didn't come on the car as standard, then it aint standard if you put it on after! By the way, this doesn't cover tyres of the same size as was on the car, it would be ridiculous to suggest you must inform your insurer if you swapped from Goodyear to Pirelli for instance!

Sadly, experience taught me a long time ago, that some insurers will do literally ANYTHING to avoid paying out if you need to make a claim. That's why it isn't always the best option to choose the cheaperst insurer out there either come renewal time, just read through their T's&C's. But that is the subject of a whole different thread! I had to google a-bar to what it was, then looked for pictures and it is a difficult choice,
but i would say no, i think the front of the 500 looks better as it is.
Of course this is just my opinion, and we all like different things.

I intend keeping my 500, so I asked my insurer if I needed to inform them when I change my exhaust to a s/s one and would it make a difference to my premium ? They said they couldn't say until I had the new exhaust fitted !!! If they think that I will change it back, at that point, then they are aving a larf !! (n) :bang:

I contacted my insurance when I had the stainless system fitted, they said so long as it wasn't a performance upgrade it was not a problem and didn't up the premium.

Not sure what an A-bar is, but as said earlier some insurers aren't fussy if it's not performance.

I added a spoiler, he asked if it was for performance and I said "hardly, it's got 70hp." Didn't pay any more.

I really do think the A-bar is a step too far and clutters up the front end. I like chrome too and fitted a bonnet spear, chrome mirror caps and polished Zunsport grille but I wouldn't go any further. When it comes down to it, it's your car so whatever turns you on...

I like the A-bar because it honours the classic 500, however, at the end of the day, it's a 2012 vehicle and will probably be left as is.

Any chance of a picture of the grill?
