You're quite right...no fun at all! I do tend to drive it harder and I know my wife certainly loves to surprise people when they see a little red 500 and think it's a slow coach. Sturgess of Leicester have finally started selling Abarths and the 595 is looking as much as we can afford when we come 'round to change the pop in 2 years....that will be driven in an extremely spirited fashion :devil:

As in my earlier post 40 mpg in my current 1.2 lounge, in my last car a Abarth 500 135bhp model 33.5 mpg, on the same roads/style of driving. :confused:
 
Mine's going to be using no fuel at all for awhile now that it's up on blocks :mad:.
A Fiat is not a Fiat if it isnt on the blocks one way or another. And what's most annoying is when a Fiat breaks, it usually needs a lot of work to put right, Italian electronics anyone? My Dualogic mess was both electronic and hydraulic = )
 
You're going to have a serious re-think about that when you get that BMW.


I did sons research and found that Bosch car service can use Bosch parts for a lot of the regular things and that they don't cost a lot more than fiat Bosch parts.

My main concern would be the dpf but with my driving that should be fine.
And as an insurance I may buy it used from a main BMW dealer which may be more expensive, but at least I'll get a 1 year unlimited warranty to protect me from any unexpected gremlins

Trust me, the DPF WILL give you grief in city use. It doesn't matter how hard you drive it. I used to drive my TDi very hard and still needed DPF cleaner in every tank. Every oil change I'd add injector cleaner, which basically filled the DPF immediately (can't run both additives at the same time)!

I'd check it there's a cost limit on repairs with that warranty first.

really? but i do drive at night at least 2wice a week and go over 80 mph in high revs for extended periods of time. i guess that helps no?
no limit on the cost. but there is this - > Terms and conditions:-
*The following are not covered by the BMW Approved Used Car Warranty: brake and clutch facings, discs and drums, bulbs (except Xenon), fuses, channels and guides, weather strips and seals, handles, hinges and check straps, trim upholstery and cosmetic finishes, wheels and tyres, wiper blades and arms, glass, auxiliary drive belts, coolant and fuel hoses, the cleaning and adjustment of any component and all service items or items that will require periodic replacement. Corrosion is also not covered by the warranty.
 
For you ahmett I'd avoid DERVs at all costs and stick to petrol!

DPFs really do not like regular city driving, even if you do blast it about or do the odd long run.
its too bloody expensive petrol! in greece 1 liter is 1.55 euros. diesel is 1.19 a liter. I would be saving about 150 euros a month at my driving rate! so even if i replace a dpf every 2 years i would still not be losing money = )

i love how with a diesel i can drive like an absolute maniac and still get good MPG. forget it with petrol = )

here's an example from my UK car rental last bank holiday weekend. Car was a Merc A180 CDI Auto.

It's not just money. Every time your DPF light comes on you have to find a motorway (not easy in the city) and go for a 20 min drive just because the light is on (this happened for me every 200km - the car only had 40,000 country kms so the DPF should have been fine). It's a PITA even if you've no where to be, one time it took me 2 hours of bombing up and down the highway to get the DPF regen completed. It eventually worked, and I started adding PDF cleaner every tank after that, factor in that cost too.

Anyway, driving hard means more soot, more soot means more soot to clog the DPF.

oh and dont worry guys, even if i get the BMW which is not 100% sure as it depends on me saving some cash, the Fiat 500 will probably stay in my family as it is pointless to sell it at 5000 GBP after spending 14,000 to buy it cash, so I will still be on this forum!

The question you might consider asking yourself is not "how much have I spent on it so far?", nor "how much could I get if I sell it?", but "how much might it cost me if I keep it?".

But today is not a good day for me to comment on the potential liability of owning a used 500.

Boy, that's really a Warranty worth having!

yeah but my mom and brother would probably drive it much softer and less than i do and in my brothers case if he gets it as a first car will probably end up messing it up regardless of how reliable it is or not = )
 
Mine usually averages around 52mpg but I thought the most recent figures were quite impressive. Average speed 61mph and 48mpg, it takes some reasonably aggressive driving to manage 61mph average on uk roads:)

depends. on the m1 i make sure i dont go below 80. if anyone on the outside lane is below that and it isnt rush hour, i indicate to let them know i want to pass = )
