Hi

Recently bought a twin air from a large dealership, faults started on 1st day of ownership. Booked it in for repair, on the 2nd day told, as the faults would be fixed under warranty, the car would have to go to their Fiat dealership which is over 100 mile round trip. They refused to take it by transporter unless I paid for it and told me one of their drivers would take it. I was under the impression any garage could repair the vehicle as long as the parts were the correct branded ones?

Any help would be much appreciated

Hello and welcome to the forum . Sorry to hear about your problems.

Are we talking about a new car, or a used one?

Servicing and other maintenance can be done by any VAT registered garage without affecting the warranty, but any repair claims made under Fiat's warranty will need to be done by a Fiat franchised dealer. It doesn't have to be the dealer you bought the car from, though - so if there is another Fiat dealer more local to you, you could take it there for any warranty repairs instead.

By the way, what's actually wrong with it?

Hi it's a 12 plate, there are Fiat dealerships nearer to me, but not with this dealer.

electric door mirrors aren't working, engine management & seat belt light come on for short periods. The last time engine went into limp mode

When was the car registered in 2012? if it was say in July (as was my 13 plate car) there's still the 3rd year warranty IF you transfer it into your name. How many owners has the car had? If you are the second owner and you transfer the warranty before the 3 years from new is up, you might be able to get the work done by Fiat at a more local Fiat franchise, however they will get an assessor to look at the car.

service history is missing at the moment thanks to the dealer, all I know is it was registered in March. It's just one Big Headache :-(

Sorry, I'm just a bit confused, did you buy the car from a genuine Fiat franchise dealership? or an independent car supermaket type dealership? I find it odd that the dealership doesn't have the service history? Alarm bells starting to ring....

Hi i wonder if its battery related ,just a thought as this can throw faults and other things on our cars ,might be worth checking ,hope you get it sorted soon.

either way if bought from a dealer customer has a warranty for the car if it breaks and if its a complete mess has a right to reject the car and claim the money back.
