Hi John,

Just wondering why it seems ok for people to gang up on me for merely pointing out the rules? Seems a bit strange to have rules, not stick to them and then back people up when they abuse me for merely pointing out the rules of the forum..... Feel free to censor this post like you did my earlier one today!

Thanks

Daniel

Because it doesn't seem to help, it seems that because I've been here for a while it's ok for me to be the whipping boy and the rules fly out the window.

Hi Daniel

Having just reread all the deleted posts, I'd say the consensus view of the rank & file membership is that pointing out the rules isn't your job and you overstepped the mark.

It's not always that black & white. We've had a lot of serious posts lately, and having something lighthearted was a refreshing change that didn't deserve to be immediately stamped on just because it didn't fit exactly with the rulebook. IMO tagging it as 'off-topic' was all that was required.

Feel free to censor this post like you did my earlier one today!

This one can stay. No one is above the rules, and I'm not going to censor criticism of my moderating - you can discuss it publicly here in this thread if you wish.

But I won't let that discussion spoil Ashley's thread, which is why I deleted your earlier post.

Regards

John

OK I get that, but why not say to people "listen, he's right, I'm going to allow it but don't be dicks to him, k?"

Try and understand it from my point of view, you're just pointing out the and people feel that they're allowed to gang up on you.....

And not to be funny, if it's not my job to point out what's right and what's wrong, why are others being allowed to tell me what I can or can't say? Double standards....

If this post is offensive let me know and i will remove it because it is not meant to be,
I have posted snotty messages after reading a few of your posts, when i should not have done that,

My opinion is that you can be a very helpful and knowledgable member, and the fourm would lose out if
you decided to quit, but some of your posts lack tact and can be read as offensive.

This is a very friendly and helpful forum and it is a shame when we all decide to be keyboard warriors.
And that has to put off newbies.

I understand that, but the message to a newbie is totally different if people choose to have an argument with me in a thread rather than saying "Nice car <insert name here>, but he's right, it's best to put your posts in a members motors thread which is what we do on this forum"

If people did that then there wouldn't be an issue. Why have rules if we're simply not going to follow them?

Where a person posts is not as important as what a person posts. If the section mod(s) deem(s) it to be more appropriate in another section, they will move it and advise the OP. If you feel a thread should be elsewhere, reply as if it was where it should be and report it. The thread will get moved and all the replies will remain relevant, it makes the mod teams job a lot easier. There's nothing I hate more than deleting peoples posts because - as you've said - it feels like censorship.

The think I I'd feel a bit of an arse reporting what is obviously a well intentioned post and thought "Ooh I know what I'll do, I'll gently point out this sort of post is meant to be in members motors"

I know rules are there to be followed but as I said earlier it's not the end of the world if something is put in the wrong section of the forum. The important thing is that ppl are interested in the forum and posting in it in the first place. Jeez. Thank for you sticking up for my post though ?

I have to disagree with the above statement, while it might not be the end of the world on its own, its the start of the end. When has it gone far enough? While maxi may not be as subtle as some, his heart is in the right place.

If one person is allowed to break the rules then more will follow and there lies anarchy.

That's pretty much why I like to point out the rules to people. Once one person starts to post for sale threads in the regular forum then everyone can and will do it.

For goodness sake maxi, chill out :)
Does it really matter if a newbie posts in the wrong section or puts pics of the latest thing they did to their 500 in the new posts section intead of members motors?
You have far more to offer than arguing petty points with members who have a common interest... We are supposed to be mates on here! C'mon, how many times have we been here? You know what I mean. Listen, I'm one of your biggest fans. I really respect your advise and points of view but you can be a bit aggressive in your approach. Man alive! Life is too short. Let's stop picking each other up on the smallest point and enjoy the reason we came here. We love 500's! (Ok some of us hate them at times too lol)
Anyway that's my rant over xxx ;)

Not being funny, but you're doing the same thing. Do you not spot the irony of complaining about someone complaining about something on a forum?

Why not just back me up and try and show new posters the way we should be doing things on the forum rather than slagging off those who try and show others the right thing?

The 500 forum seems unlike any other model specific forum on here in that rules don't mean anything as long as you're perceived to be nice. Conversely you can try and uphold the rules but if you're perceived to be a nasty sort who derives self worth by being that horrible person that informs newbies of the rules then you're fair game.

Not that I feel I'm going to be killed in the rush here, but.....

I'm backing you on this one Maxi - 100%.

Your plain speaking on here can be like a breath of fresh air.

Hate to lose you.
