Hi all!
Everytime i get back from work i take a small look at the car to see if something isn't right, but this time murphy got me when i didnt and fount it like that this morning \=

This is the second time i need to glue the front left trim (the moustache) to its place, but this time i dont know if sombody took it out it or it just fell while driving.

I bought it again from ebay, but this time i need your help - with what kind of glue to use? A friend suggest me to use Double Sided Tapes but it looks way too weak to hold it / the glue will fail under the sun.

My last experienceis with Red silicone (the one that uses to seal car gaskets), but i guess its only to seal parts, not a glue.
any suggestion?

Automotive double-sided mounting tapes, such as 3M VHB (Very High Bond) should be more than sufficient provided you have adequate mating surfaces and they are properly cleaned and prepared. This is not the white stuff that's sold in supermarkets for hanging pictures and the like! If I recall it's what FIAT use for mounting such things as badges and the side trim on some 500 models. It holds the bonnet spear on my car and, believe me, that's not going anywhere even on a black car in the Australian sun.

Heavy duty 'sticky' pads from DIY store work well.

The 3 M tape, yes.
The foam tape, a definite NO-NO.
Sikaflex products (there is a whole range, some of which I use on my boat, designed for harsh marine conditions) are excellent, but they need more preparation, and the tubes 'go off' once opened, so they will cost you dear.

From the pictures the first one with the red liner appears to be a knock-off, i.e. not genuine 3M. The other looks OK but it's not clear on width and thickness. Be wary of offers that seem like bargains - especially if they're a bit coy on width. Don't go by the images shown; ascertain from the supplier the exact length, width and thickness of the tape they'll actually supply.

For general purposes I'd be looking for 12mm wide and 1mm thick, black or clear, in an adequate length. For peace of mind I'd tend to purchase from a US supplier but that's a personal choice.

Thank you, i did not ordered it yet and guess ill order it from a US / UK supplier. pretty hard to find these 3m VHB tapes where i live.

I have also found the 3M Outdoor Mounting - will it be strong enough like VHB?

I would use either,
A small tube of Silicone Rubber. Used to hold the MGF front sidelights where the tabs are broken.
or,
Number Plate two sided adhesive tabs. Used to hold the number plates on.

Not sure about the strength of the outdoor mounting tape. It may be OK though if it can hold to brick. Again, check the thickness offered - too thick and it may prevent the trim from seating properly (leaving gaps into which water and dirt can ingress) while very thin tape such as 0.6mm might not bridge the gap and hold securely. Silicon, as suggested by Geoff, is an option though I find it a bit messy and the trim will need to be taped on while it cures - it's up to you of course but I would prefer to use tape recommended for automotive applications.

Thanks, thats what im going to do, use a silicon glue with some Automotive tape, im going to order it from a US seller and try it out.
just hope it wont fall off again (or be stolen)

The other side went down a month ago so i took it off and left it in a shelf untill the second part will arrive from Latvia (costs 18£ with shipment from ebay!)

BTW - dont you think the chrome trim itself feels very very cheap? only a small piece of plastic that is expensive as hell - the dealership here wants 90£ for whole set, only 2 pieces and not including the badge

Well that's dealers the world over. I used to work for a local vehicle importer and their mark-up on parts, particularly trim components such as this, was simply eye-watering...

All the best with your repairs.

Luckily we got ebay to buy cheaper parts, i recommend it to all - specially the trims that falls off very fast

That looks about right man. As long as you have sufficient close and clean surfaces to apply it (I haven't seen the back of the chrome fittings). Be sure to clean the surfaces thoroughly - preferably with Iso-Propyl alcohol swabs to remove any dirt, grease, fingerprints etc.

All the best.

Ok thanks!
i have wax on my car so i will use alcohol diluted with water 3:1 at the fittings area before.
