Morning all , just had my TA 85 remapped yesterday and was wondering if any others have had theirs done. All i can say is its saved me thousands on a trade in to a new 105 model that the stealer tried to get me to sign up for. :)

Hmm you might be spending thousands yet!! Who provided the map and what are the specs?

Hmmmm, I for one won't be going anywhere near a remap, who knows what extra stress is being added to an already very small engine. I'm assuming here the OP's car is no longer in warranty? so that aspect may not be an issue if the engine goes bang.....so I hope you have deep pockets for such an event. Each to their own though. And there aren't many folk who admit to having informed their insurer either........ which I'm sure the OP has......;)

By the way, do you mind divulging how much the remap cost? and did you have it put on a rolling road before and after remap to see exactly how much of a gain there has been and if so, exactly what bhp is the little car now producing?

It obviously depends on who you're insured with and the individual but insurers don't alter the premium every time.

So is the 85 mechanically different to the 105?

Yes, turbo and manifold is different, there may be other internal mods too.

How's it feel, who did it for you?
Did you get it dyno'd?
Really interested to know.
Thanks.

This is the 3rd car ive had remapped , the previous 2 were a 330D Bmw and a Volvo V50 2,0D and neither gave me any troubles. The remap basically gives the 85 the same characteristics as the newer 105 TA model...after all the engine is identical.

It was a polite request in the earlier post regarding cost of the remap, bhp output, dyno etc, but I guess you don't wish to divulge that info?

Also, if the turbo and manifold on the 85 is different to that of the TA 105, then might there be consequences in the long term on the engine and other components? I take it you won't be driving it like a standard TA 85 having gone to the trouble of a remap?

I searched ePER for differences between the Euro 6 TA85 and the Euro 6 TA105. As far as I can see the following parts are identical:

- cylinderhead
- head gasket
- pistons
- connecting rods
- crankshaft
- flywheel

I couldn't find the crankcase of the TA in ePER. For some strange reason component category 10101-010 contains all crankcases except those of the TA.

The turbo, manifold, thermostat and I think one other external part that escapes me at the moment are different in the 105hp. The internals are all the same. Keep in mind that the 85hp only makes 100hp per litre which is fairly modest for a turbo engine. I wouldn't call it a highly stressed unit. IMO the release of the 105hp model suggests Fiat were conservative with the initial 85hp spec until some real world miles were put on them.

UFI, did you perhaps mean the intercooler with that external part? According to ePER that is different indeed. I don't know what the difference is, but it seems logical that the TA105 has a bigger one.

I believe its up to about 111bhp and 185Nm now, but its not just the gains, it drives much more smoothly now. And it cost £140 from a local remapping company

Wow, that's a massive gain!! Cheap too.

Almost too good to be true!

G-TECH is the only tuning company I know that published such high numbers. G-TECH claims to tune the TA85 to 110.8 hp and 197.6 Nm, and that with a box. But G-TECH creatively takes advantage of the DIN 70020 power correction and the fact that their test facility is about 600 m above sea level. Without that correction they reach 101.7 hp, which isn't bad at all! More info can be found here:

Thanks for taking the time to respond. The price you paid, appears to be significantly cheaper than many other companies out there which seem to start out around the £250 and upward to £450. Also, comparing the claimed gains in both bhp/torque, they appear to differ markedly in some cases between several of the companies in the UK that I've looked at using a search engine.

If you are personally happy with what you've done, then that's good for you. It certainly isn't something I'll be getting done to our own vehicle, it runs just fine as it is, plus, it's still under warranty and I don't think Fiat would play ball if it went TU!
