Tuning Twinair Remap

Tuning Twinair Remap

That means Quantum probably haven't done a TA85 yet. A heads up as the first customer with a new car gets their remap for free :D

The turbo, manifold, thermostat and I think one other external part that escapes me at the moment are different in the 105hp. The internals are all the same. Keep in mind that the 85hp only makes 100hp per litre which is fairly modest for a turbo engine. I wouldn't call it a highly stressed unit. IMO the release of the 105hp model suggests Fiat were conservative with the initial 85hp spec until some real world miles were put on them.

My understanding was that the 85hp TA was more about emissions fitting into the category that exempted it from the congestion charge. When that exemption was removed it paved the way for the 105. Sure I remember reading that somewhere.

i think all new fiats are sold now with ESP.

I was referring to upgrades that would be needed to bring an older 85 up to 105 spec

If remapping can get 85 up to a "real" 101 I wonder why they would get out of a 105.
I share the opinion that the TA should not be highly stressed as even 105hp from a 0.9 engine is not huge. I know it is not the same but 210hp from a 4cylinder wouldn't rewrite any records.

Yes Honda S2000 was over 100 hp per litre from an an engine !

Previously forgot to mention the 6 speed gearbox of the 105. All in all the premium for the 105 is very good value.

I had a 85bhp on order but the dealer got the order wrong. So when they re ordered it I went for the 105. Then I found out about the British cycling discount with fiat so I managed to get that. So I'm paying the same amount a month for 105 as I would have with 85

The 6-speed gearbox is certainly a 'nice to have' but be prepared for a laughably big turning circle (assuming it's the same box layout as in the 1.4 100hp) for such a tiny car! Still amuses me sometimes when I'm required to execute multiple point manoeuvres in tight spaces.

According to the owner handbook the TA105 doens't have the large turning circle the 1.4 with 6-speed gearbox has!

I'm going to suggest that's an error in the handbook. Looking at the drawings, the six speed gearbox is about 100mm wider than the five.

They were always going to release a 105 to replace the 1.4. Your argument doesn't really make sense anyway if you think about it.

No, the point is that the 85 was no longer going to be exempt. The rules changed so it did not qualify so if the 85 was based on that exemption it no longer made sense. Hence releasing more power from the same engine. Why would they have restricted the power (it wasn't in the 500L).
I am not championing this theory I am just passing it on.
You may disagree.

Congestion charge exemption was only relevant to those folks who drove regularly into Central London; this is likely such a small percentage of potential 500 owners that I seriously doubt it'd figure in Fiat's thinking. Granted, it was a big issue if you were one of the few who could benefit from it, but an irrelevance to the vast majority of 500 owners and certainly not a reason to delay the launch of the 105TA.
