Hi,

I would be really grateful if someone could offer any help or advice with this problem - I'll keep it as brief as possible.

Yesterday, I bought a 2008 Fiat 500 Lounge. When I woke up this morning and looked at it parked on the drive, the electric sunroof was open and, because it had rained last night, there was a lot of water and general dampness inside. The front seats were quite wet and have now badly stained. The strange thing is; when I went to bed, I looked out of the window and the sunroof was definitely closed! (my daughter even took a photo of the car sitting on the drive just before we went to bed, so I KNOW it was closed).

The only thing we can think of is that, on page 42 of the Owner Handbook under the heading Initialisation Procedure, it says:

"Sunroof shall be re-initialised after disconnecting the battery or if the relevant protection fuse has blown".

I've been to Halfords to have the battery checked out and they say it is fine. But obviously they can't really help with the protection fuse issue (and I admit to not having a clue what this actually means!).

Would this be the cause of the problem? I would be grateful if anyone knows the answer before I either take it back to the dealer, or to a garage to have the problem investigated.

Many thanks in advance.

Spooky! Sounds a bit strange as the sunroof won't work without ignition on. Are you sure one of your kids weren't messing with the car later in the night or early morning and accidentally left it open?

I know what you mean, but my daughter (who was the only one of my kids at home last night) says that, unless she slept-walked, then NO way did that happen!

It's still a mystery.......

I have an electric sunroof too, but have never heard of one opening on its own...I believe there is a manual override in case the electric motor fails. Does sound very weird....can you close it easily with the ignition on?

Hi, yes it's working fine - it just seems to have opened by itself overnight

. People keep saying that it's not possible, but I have no other explanation.

To make matters worse, the alarm has gone off three times this evening for no apparent reason!

I'm half thinking of taking the car back to the dealers to see if they'll buy it back
:(

Very odd indeed. Not a burglary gone wrong ? Keys weren't in the ignition? Perhaps it is an electrical fault causing the roof and alarm to go off... Take it back to the dealer, assume it's under a used car warranty of some sort .

I wonder if the battery is on the way out, and that's causing things to get a bit flakey.

Yes, I wondered the same thing but had the battery checked out at Halfords earlier today and they said it's fine.

No, no keys in the ignition. The alarm hasn't gone off for a while now, so I think I should sleep well tonight :)

I'm definitely taking it back to the dealer asap.

Thanks for all the replies.

Yes this could be handy to know, is it one that gives you "global opening and closing" ie you can open and close the windows\sunroof with it, cos if you can you will have more than likely found your culprit! :D

Thanks for this. I'll have a play around later, but it looks like you might have found the answer to my problems (I hope!).
