New to forum but proud if somewhat disillusioned owner of a 1.3 multi jet sport, 58 plate with a horrible clonky bottom!
Turbo tomato has now done 50k miles and has had an ongoing clonk/bonk from what sound like rear centre of car when driving over any sort of bumpy road. She has had new rear shocks, 2 sets of Bogies, 1st set buggered after 9 months and caused Mot failure, new rear beam bushes fitted today, still no improvement. All obvious brackets, exhaust, spare wheel, seat mounts, boot catches, springs have been checked by mechanically inclined OH and 2 separate garages and we are now officially stumped! Any suggestions?

Check the rear seats are properly seated and tools and spare wheel are securely mounted. The only things at the rear of the car underneath are the suspension, fuel tank, axles etc.

What are bogies btw? Oh and what part of the country are you in?

Bogies are the make of rear shocks, all spare wheel, jack, seat mounts etc have been checked. I'm in Cambridgeshire/ Bedfordshire borders

Have a visual on the rear shock top bushes. If not tightened in the correct sequence, they can elongate quite quickly, and may explain the apparent early failure of your replacements.

Only other thing would be the exhaust hangers.

Not necessarily a noise from the rear.
We had a 'rear' clonking noise that baffled us for weeks. Turned out to be a shot drop link on the front. Noise sometimes gets transferred and seems to be originating from another spot.
Have you gone over the front suspension setup?

Thank you for your replies, request from OH for further clarification of correct adjustment/fitting of shocks, they are just standard type shocks that just bolt in? What would you be looking for on inspection?
Not exhaust hangers, been checked. Stripped all internals from rear of car and drove round with him in the boot this morning, we are still hearing the noise from the rear of the car, but by a process of elimination, there appears to be be nothing else to check/change at the rear and front end is due for serious scrutiny tomorrow. Drop links are on the list of things to check.

Visually, you are looking at the top mounting of the shock absorber, which I believe can be seen with the vehicle still on the road. Look behind the nut that secures the top of the shock at the rubber. Is the hole elongated?

Good luck!
