I've seen that there is a magneti marelli tuning box for the 85bhp twinair and there is some users on here who have it. I've recently noticed there is one for the 105bhp version. Has anyone used this box or even remapped the 105. Also I'm not looking for comments like why not get an abarth etc. I am purely looking for reviews and information on these boxes. Thanks

The box in question http://www.dotshop.it/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=166_3055_3170_3173&products_id=42663

I've got the 85hp box on order, it's currently not available for purchase as the software is being re-written.

What will the unit do for the 105?
Push it up to 125?

What is the downside to this re-mapping? ......... because there's bound to be a downside.

Regards
Mick.

I'm not sure how much increase it would be. I only had a quick look on the site and I couldn't see it but I might have missed it. Well that's what I was thinking, there must be a downside so hopefully someone knows. I don't want to be ruining my new car haha

I'd wait for your car to be fully run in. Maybe 10,000km before fitting a chip or remap (especially if you get a bespoke remap).

You'll shorten your engine's life if you use the extra power a lot, and you'll burn more fuel if you use the extra power a lot.

You'll probably need to use V-Power or equivalent too. UFI did 2000km last year so I don't mind potentially shortening the engine life a little. Driven sensibly and maintained adequately you should have no problems and might even find fuel economy improves.

Yeah that would be a sensible option to wait. I was planning on using v power from the start as its only a couple of quid difference for a full tank. On the grande punto I had, I got that remapped. I rarely used the extra power but the torque was amazing and it helped with fuel

Well, it'll void your warranty...
No it does not necessarily. If the remap has no relationship to the failed item the warranty will still be valid. For example if your door handle falls off. Furthermore if an engine related warranty issue arises it will not necessarily be related to the remap. This area is somewhat greyer and depends on the manufacturer and local distributor. I have had a remapped engine replaced under warranty on my VW due to a design fault.
Also some remaps allow you to simply erase them back to stock. Sure the manufacturer could go hunting for evidence of the tune previously existing. But they are not going to bother if the cause is known to them and unrelated.

That said, if your engine blows up, Fiat will want to know why and if they see it has been remapped you will be on shakey ground. So stick to reputable engine re mappers and hope it never happens.

Thanks for the reply. I've been looking about and this company seems to be well connected to fiat so hopefully it is a reputable brand

I have the module for my 85hp TwinAir. Very happy with it :)

If I remember correctly the module will bump the 105hp TwinAir up to 120hp - so a 15hp increase like the 85hp.

As UFI has already mentioned the module is pending for a software update so even if some retailers carry it, you should probably wait. Hopefully it will be out this month.

Personally I would wait until the car is run in before fitting a the module. Likely it will void warranty on components for the drive train. I waited until mine was out of warranty but it understandable if you are not that patient :D

Downsides are some increased wear and the fuel economy suffers (because you want to use the extra power, right? :D). Of course there is always a risk that some components won't be able to handle the extra power and break. The gearbox on the 85hp has been discussed quite a bit in this regard since the module puts it over the 150nm it is spec'ed for. To be honest I sometimes still worry a bit about that. Likely everything will be fine. Just expect some increased wear, care for your car and keep it properly serviced :)

Thanks for the lengthy reply. Have you seen an issue with having the box fit yet?

I would wait till the car is run in even if it will kill me waiting so much haha. I understand the extra wear will be a problem. As mentioned before with my remapped punto I was able to save fuel when I was asking sensible but the power increase was so good!! I would love to here a user who has the module for 105

All good gen there. I would not worry to much about the Gearbox torque unless you are way way over spec AND you abuse it to boot My VWs DSG was specced at 240nm and the tune I added increased it to 400nms! Gearbox has been fine.
The concensus from the tuners was Gearboxes are designed way over spec for longevity purposes.

I got the remap when the car was a day old. It now has 90,000kms. Would do the same on my TA but don't need the extra umph ATM.

That's a huge increase. I think if you look after it and treat the car with respect it will be fine! Which I have always done with cars.

A remap on the 85hp to 100hp equates to around 180-190Nm. On the 105 you should have the same 6 speed as the 1.4 (and MJ?,) so torque capacity should be plenty.

As a complete newbie to one of these MM units, can someone explain how they fit? I must say I'm tempted to get one for our 85TA.

Is it just unit that you plug in to the existing stuff and clip it out of the way?

???
Mick.
