Here is my ground clearance from the billies

Hi guys,
Just a quick post with some measurements.

Sill height is 6" at the rear of the front arches.
Sill height is 8" at the front of the rear arches.

Sounds about right.

Rear ride height in particular is very load dependent, as with most cars of its type.

Pictures attached, as promised.

That's quite a bit more than what Mick has seen with his standard car.

My 04 Punto HGT was on lowered and stiffened suspension from new compared to lesser models and that had 100mm clearance at the front bumper the only time it would ever make contact with anything was parking nose in to bays with a high kerb at the front

So Mick's car is higher than jrkitching's. Something tells me his street wouldn't be out of place in Beirut.....

What if the car could be lower and less likely to bottom out? ;)

It's not bottoming out that concerns me - I don't drive hard enough for that - it's the occasional situation where the last part of the journey is down an unmade road or rough track. I can think of at least three places I've been to in the past year where I'd have been walking if I'd lowered the car.

Another consideration is the need to be able to lift the car easily at the roadside with a dead flat tyre.

I'm not saying it's wrong to lower the car - though if you do, I'd wholeheartedly agree you need to do it properly and fit decent shocks; just that there are some situations that will be more awkward if you do.

For some, the benefits of lowering may outweigh the disadvantages; for me, it's the other way round.

Just a case of different folks having different priorities.

Thanks for the photos. I wish I'd have thought of doing that.

My 6" sill height at the front was a quick offer up of a tape measure and 6" was what I saw. Maybe if I'd got level and taken a good shot of it, I'd have been more accurate. Better still would be on a dead level and smooth surface. (not something we have).

Our drive is sloping somewhat and Rossa was pointing downwards. Maybe the figure could have been slewed a tad.

Any road up, the point I make, is that the front underneath is very low (perhaps only 3") and the plastic bits rub on any rough tarmac. Lowering a 500 would be problematical here in the rural SW.

Thanks guys,
Mick.
