If Fiat went bust, and stopped trading, what vehicle manufacturer would members go for? bearing in mind this is a Fiat 500 forum and I would imagine people would want something along the same lines as they have now.

Reason for asking is the 500 has many advantages as regards styling, economy , and reasonable manufacturing standards, however there must come a time when a complete change is desired.

If I was buying the same type of car again, I'd seriously consider the new Renault Twingo. Cheeky styling, good performance and economy from the 0.9 TCe, interesting layout, very practical and a 4-year warranty.

I don't expect to buy another Fiat, so it wouldn't matter really. Nothing against the 500, but there are so many cars I'd like to own, I'd never buy the same one twice*.

I'm thinking of selling UFI and building an MEV rocket:

*Except my 400Nm Volkswagen Transporter.

Personally, I'd just buy a Dacia Sandero 1.5 diesel in the top trim level. Zero road tax is a good attraction for me.

I've come to realise lately, that I ain't getting any younger and I don't really need big cars anymore. I'm also not a marque snob. Dacia have been around a long time and they are a full subsidiary of Renault anyway, using just about all Renault parts, albeit from the old Clio range, so whilst it might have all the handling of a 20 year old car compared to the stiff underpinnings of many other modern marques, it won't be a complete disappointment. All that being said, the 1.5 diesel engine is exactly the same unit as in the current clio range and therefore makes it into the zero tax bracket.

For the nay sayers, cringe all you like and cry about depreciation, but even if you splash out on all the toys available, it'll still come in cheaper than many a 500.

Good choice, Frupi, as you say, what's the most you can lose in depreciation? As, like me, you say you are not getting any younger, might be worth splashing the extra on a Stepway for easier access!

Lol! RUI, but would you actually buy one? Can't exactly park it in the local supermarket....plus I'd hate to think what the annual service cost would be, tho I suppose anyone buying one of those could afford all the associated costs with it :p

Tbh, I prefer the look of the standard Sandero, but if I had one, it would have to have the leather interior, centre arm rest, basically, all of the available options. It would be a car I kept for a considerable period of time so I'd prefer a few more creature comforts. If I could get one pre-reg with the options I'd want, I'd probably go for it.

All European production is in Romania and it certainly is a popular little car outside of the UK. At the end of the day, it's a budget car and the interior plastics etc will look cheap compared to many European models. I have a friend in South Africa who has a Sandero, and it serves her well. It's badged as a Renault down there.

Dacias are cheap for a reason!

If Fiat goes bust I will 100% get one, the spec I was driving was £210,000 and servicing is stupid expensive.
It is an absolutely amazing car...It even has start stop when not in sports mode!
I just hope Fiat don't go bust as its going to be costly for me if they do.

Yes, but the rust issue appears to be only Indian built Dusters not Romanian built Sanderos. Could be a killer for them if not dealt with properly and quickly though.

It's already being noted in the trade that Dacia are not doing as much as they should. Watch the resale values fall even more steeply.
