i want to replace my drl's with led but i get an error . what do i have to do to get rid of the error on the dash board? thanks.

What is to be gained by fitting LEDs if you need a ballast resistor anyway?

Surely the current drain will be the same, and must be the same to stop the warning light coming on?

Thanks
Mick.

You can roughly halve current draw and keep the CANBUS happy, plus your DRL's will be a quite a bit brighter potentially.

But that doesn't answer my question, or perhaps I didn't ask what I meant to ask.

Why do you need less of a current draw and why do you need brighter DRLs?

If I were thinking of doing a modification, I'd make the DRLs come on at the rear as well as at the front.

Cheers,
Mick.

Because for those of us who live in sunny countries, the stock DRL's are worth jack. You can clearly see the car before the DRL's. They're more like park lights. Less current draw means less fuel used. It's not a lot, but every bit counts. My instruments aren't able to pick up DRL draw, but headlights on uses about 0.2 l/hr. At a 25km/h average speed, that's a full 0.8l/100km. DRL's use about 1/4 of that, but over a 700km tank it still adds up.

Where are you?

I'm not sure that DRLs are even worth the electricity, no matter how bright and sunny it is.

We are in an "arms race".
If every vehicle used DRLs, none of them would be noticeable. It's like everyone wearing HiViz and no-one standing out from the crowd coz everyone is the same.

If I fitted big bright DLRLs. I'd be noticed.
If you fitted them too, we'd both be noticed.
If everyone fitted them, no-one would be noticed any more than anyone else and we'd all blend in.

ad infinitum

Regards, and happy Sunday evening,
Mick.

I have to agree about the rear lights. I used to always (even during the day) drive about in my older cars with side lights on, front and rear obviously, also liked the dash instruments being illuminated when side lights were on.
Thick fog here today and the number of numpties with no lights on was unbelievable. Those with newer cars with DRL obviously only have the front lights on. The lack of basic rear lighting was very noticeable.

There's a very good reason why you don't really want rear lights lit up in the day.....

When are brake lights more visible? In a sea of rear tail lights, or on their own?

Considering the closing speeds of cars heading in the same direction are always going to be lower than cars heading towards each other, there's a very good argument for the rear of a car to not have any lighting until it's properly dark.

I have Led for can bus ...

You'll probably still need resistors if they trip the warning system, not many canbus designed bulbs are capable of fooling Fiats system ;)

I'd rather be at the peak of the race than in last place ;)

Given the number of accidents that happen between two cars with no other vehicles nearby, DRL's will always be a good idea. They're also great at warding off pedestrians in the CBD.

The DRL's on the Panda are twin filament Brake light bulbs, both filaments are on during the day and drops to one filament when the headlights are on. (is this the same for the 500?).

I just fitted LED tail light bulbs, they work a treat.

Are you sure both are on? Normally the 21watt for DRLs during the day and the 5watt for position lamp at night on the 500 I believe.

I fitted LEDs to a previous car (Scirocco) and these were LEDs with built in resistor to stop errors but I still got messages on dash. Got sick of them and put bulbs back in.

hi .
yes i had a 2012 scirocco and installed T10 canbus leds and never got any errors on dash
