Hello everyone,

I had my car stolen last night from Camden in London. I'm gutted - it was a Volare Blue Pop but I'd customised it with tan leather seats, electric sunroof, blue and me and chrome side mirrors.

I bought it from new two years ago. It was stolen from right outside my boyfriend's front door last night anytime between 730pm and 1130pm.

I'm just so upset. I definitely locked it and I've still got both sets of car keys so I'm not sure how they got in. They would had to have driven it off as it was parallel parked snugly between two cars.

i've informed the police and insurance but the police say it's unlikely I'll get it back and that it's one of the most stolen cars in London. they also won't look at any CCTV around the area unless they have a specific 20-30 min time frame of when it was stolen - and they won't allow me to look at the CCTV either. There aren't any CCTV cameras on the exact road from where it was taken either. Does anyone have any advice? I'm not sure how long I have to wait before the insurance will pay out, and it will only pay the current value of it.

It was my first ever car and I loved it and am just absolutely gutted. Not sure what to do now or whether I shuold even buy another one in case it just gets stolen again.

If anyone has any advice or help, I'd be really grateful!

london is a dodgy town unfortunately so these things do happen. too many naughty people. so sorry to hear for your loss but you'll get back on your feet soon. how much did the insurance value your car last?

Sorry too to hear of your loss. When the insurance pays out, which I clearly hope it does, then may I suggest you consider fitting a tracking device to your next vehicle. They're not cheap and generally there is an annual subcription to be paid I believe, but it'll at least give you some chance of getting your motor back before it is chopped up or stuck in a container and shipped off.

Clearly I don't know if you declared any of the modifications you did to the stolen car, but when you get another, make sure you do declare any future mods.

Time to go back to the steering wheel lock and separate alarm system/immobiliser as factory systems are now insecure as thieves are grabbing signals from the remote keys plus stealing keys from houses. There has been no car theft from where I live until this year and about 10 cars have
gone since June.

A steering lock won't safeguard against a HIAB lifting a car up......

And the farmers in my area not only leave their keys in their (very upmarket) cars, but leave their house doors unlocked also - while they're on their tractors working away in the fields!

Different world ...

Like others, sorry to hear about what happened it would be devastating. Sometimes you can be lucky, cars can be stolen by joyriders, who dump them in car parks or side streets. If that's the case you should know in a day or two. I wouldn't let this event stop you from buying another 500. Best of luck!

Anyone try out this:

or any other devices recommended?

I’ve fortunately only suffered car crime once and as you have found out the Police are totally uninterested.

Who knows how they get around the immobiliser but I know Merc’s are susceptible, the scum bag allegedly get in through the grill and connect some sort of device to disable it.

Talking of Hiabs. The newer ones have remote controls to operate the crane which have a knack of unlocking any BMW’s within 100m metres:eek:

Anyway the only advice I can offer is is to not accept the first offer the insurance company make. Do some research on Autotrader and Pistonheads to value your car and throw that at them as evidence. Insurance companies are only one step up the food chain from the scum that took your car, they will try to do the proverbial to you.

Thanks everyone for your kind replies. The next time I buy one, I will fit it with everything going - immobiliser, steering lock, tracking device.

I'll also do some research on the value of the car so I have something when the insurance company come round.

I'm still baffled as to how they drove it away. I didnt think I would feel this upset about it but I do.

Like Maxi, lifted away and either broken for parts or the various security systems recoded.

I suspect the first, as a relatively inexpensive 500 is an odd target for the more "electronic" thieves.

Worth keeping an eye on ebay for the seats, I wonder?
