Decided that we are going to keep the Twinair 85 until early next year, get rid before warranty expires. Looks like we may go for the Twinair 105, seems we can get £1900 off the list due to the Affinity scheme.
My question is. I am planning to get a set of spare wheels with winter tyres, would 14" wheels fit our present and possible future purchase?
Thanks for any input.

If I'm allowed to converse with you after I seemingly upset you the last time, then yes, 14 inch steel wheels are just fine, unless of course there is something that has been altered. That is what we use on our own lounge. We bought them for our last POP, kept them and when we picked up the TA end of last November, I put them straight on the car and kept the alloys in the garage over winter.

Question is, will they also fit the TA 105?

I'm scratching my head now to remember what size wheels were fitted to the 1.4 pop? IIRC they were 15" steelies, perhaps because of brake clearance issues, which might also be an issue with the 105 TA.

Here is a 1.4 pop.

That depends on whether the wheelbase, hub fitting, calipers are different? That is why I did say, unless anything has been altered. My immediate thought would be, that if the 105 comes with the standard skinny space saver wheel in the boot that the rest of the 500 range seems to come with, then I'm assuming the 14's will fit. Just to note, the front brake calipers are different on our TA than were on the POP and the 14's fit just fine.

Hi frupi, thanks for your input. Life is way, way too short to let me, being a silly beggar, stop people like yourself trying to be helpful. I sometimes, like many on this forum, don't stop to think before I put my mouth into gear. Thanks again, looks like I am okay with our TA 85, and potentially with the 105.

Looks like the 105 also comes with a space saver spare wheel. I'll try to locate a dealer with a 105 in stock and go have a look, and take some measurements. Also they all come with TPMS, so may be an issue if fitting wheels and tyres with no TPMS (could be talking ******** but seems to be an issue on other car forums).

If the TPMS gets its input from the ABS computer (and I'd expect it would), then providing all four wheels have the same rolling diameter, you'll be fine.

Just had a look at the USA forum and it looks like they are 'Direct Sensors' in USA and Canada. So each wheel is fittted with a sensor/tyre valve. So any replacement wheel will need said sensor fitted, at quite a cost. The 'Indirect System' seems to be linked to the ABS sensor. So I do hope we get the 'Indirect System' here in Europe, but I doubt it.

Lol! No probs. I'm that chilled out now anyway as I've just returned from a very nice holiday a darn sight hotter than Blighty. Plus, I got to be away for the referendum!

I'm sure you'll sort things out. I had similar worries over wheel sizing with my Saab when I was mulling over winter wheels, reducing in size from the standard 17 inch alloys to 16 inch steelies. Ended up buying a set of ex Vauxhall Vectra steelies (same offset and stud pattern) from my local scrapyard for 40 quid all in but of course I had to put four brand new winter tyres on them. Still, a damn good investment over the winter period and I wouldn't be without them.

I think there was a post recently from someone who had a TPMS warning on the TFT display on a 2014 500 & IIRC that was an ABS driven system.

I'd also expect it'd be cheaper for Fiat to implement TPMS via the ABS ecu, so my bet is that Euro 500's will have an ABS driven TPMS.

I'm sure the 1.4 pop had 15" steels- they had vented discs that were slightly larger than the 1.2 petrol and 1.3 dismal IIRC.

In a similar predicament, off chance I might trade up to a 105 in a year or two and dont want to be lumbered with 14" wheels & tyres that no longer fit - the initial outlay is quite high. Was originally thinking of just buying 15" winter tyres and swopping over on to my bicolour alloys twice a year - at least I'd still be able to use the tyres as long as I bought 15's on the 105. Would be interested to getting a definite answer on this one if anyone is sure fitwise?

Not sure if you have picked up this info already but the 105 has discs on the rear rather than the usual drums.

That shouldn't be a problem as long as there is enough clearance on the calipers to the inside of the rims. As I mentioned previously, the front calipers on our TA 85bhp are different to the ones on the POP and the 14 inch steels fit just fine so I'm guessing that as long as the rear discs/calipers aren't that different to the front size wise, then I couldn't imagine that it would be a problem. Again though, the easy test is the skinny space saver wheel, if it is the same as supplied for the 1.2 POP (all the relevnt sizing/offset/hole diameter etc, are stamped on the rims), then I'm assuming all would be well.

14" wheels will be fine on an 85TA; remember the Colour Therapy runs on 14" steelies and you can get that with the 85TA engine.

Rear discs on the 105 shouldn't be a problem; IIRC the discs are the same as the front discs on the 1.2.

It's the fronts that I don't think will fit; I'd expect the 105 runs larger discs than the 85. Interestingly you can't get the 105TA engine in the Colour Therapy; perhaps because the wheels won't fit.

I'd agree with wellfan & frupi that an examination of the space saver on a 105TA will provide a definitive answer. Anyone here with a 105TA care to lift up the boot carpet & check, please?

Still no joy. I have contacted every Fiat dealer near me in Central Scotland, and the silence is deafening.

I will check tonight assuming I remember!!!! What should I be looking for?
Otherwise I will be at Brooklands next Sunday (12th) - Motorsport day Italian car display so you can have a look over it there.

What should I be looking for?

Lift the boot carpet, and look at the markings on the sidewall of the tyre. Post what you find and we'll decode it for you.

You are looking for something like this:

S135/80 B 14 84 M

(that's taken from the factory fit space saver tyre on a 2010 1.2 500).
