I have some damage to my fiat 500 and need to get the front bumper (which is plastic) off without causing anymore damage.

I have never done this before. is there a YouTube video of someone showing you how to do it or even a pdf document of steps in pictures or writing?

any help would be great
cheers guys

Hello and welcome to the forum .

Sorry to hear you've had some damage to your 500.

Removing the front bumper would appear to be reasonably straightforward but much easier if you have a second person to help you lift it off.

I've not done one myself; hopefully someone who has will be along in a short while.

Had to remove the front bumper on my MJ recently to replace the a/c condenser.

Approached job with trepidation - thought it would be a major hassle - but experience proved otherwise.

Basically there are 3-4 crosshead screws at the front of each wheelarch holding the front liner. Remove these - they may be caked in mud! Ease out the liners - a small plastic flap secures them to the subframe which needed a bit of fiddling to free.

Lift the bonnet to reveal 4 screws across the width of the front holding the bumper in place in front of the radiator. Remove these.

As far as I recall, all that now holds the bumper in place are two integral plastic flaps which snap into/out of the side wing section. Mine released without much of a fight.

The bumper is so light weight that I didn't need the recommended 2 people to remove/replace it. I just lowered it gently to the ground, unclipping the front light connectors as I did so.

Going from memory, that was it. Did it in less time than it has taken me to change a front light bulb!

Thought I would add to this post as I have done this today.

Jacked up the car and removed the wheels, supported on axle stands. This gives you access to the screws on the wheel liner.

There are two screws and one plastic bolt to undo, you can then move the liner out of the way.

There is one screw in the wheel arch with a Torx head that connects the bumper to the wing. Take this out both sides and there are then four screws underneath. The easy bit is two, or was it four? screws that secure the bumper to the slam panel under the bonnet. Once these are out you can just pull the bumper away, starting at one side to pull it out of the clips that hold it into the wings. Then it just lifts away, put it down on something soft (I used old cardboard boxes) and disconnect the cables for the lights.

Looks like I may have to do this tomorrow.

All I wanted to do was change a DRL/side light bulb.

I tried to do it as per the guide and as per advice, but my chubby fingers WILL NOT go into the restricted access to get at the bulb holder. I took the wheel off and that helped, but I still needed snipe-nosed pliers to twist the holder out.

All ok so far ..................

Old bulb out, new bulb in, and then I began fitting the holder and bulb in place ..................

Oh bugger!
The bulb fell out of its holder and now resides inside the light assembly. :bang:

I've tried poking it about with a thin wire, I've tried sticky tape on the end, but I cannot get it out. All that is left, is to take the front bumper off.

Thanks for the assurance that it comes off ok.

Thanks,
Mick.

Glad you found a better way, and that's a top tip with a vacuum cleaner.

Further to my previous post on taking the wheel off, you don't actually have to take it off and jack the car up. You can just turn the wheels to get access to the screws that hold the bumper to the wing and wheel arch liner, then do the same the other side. Much less hassle.
