Nope no wobble at all, the TomTom still fits snugly in the cradle, it's just loosened up ever so slightly that I no longer have to strain to pry it out :)

Tried the magnet modification today. However, when fitted I was not convinced the magnet would hold it, despite it being quite a powerful magnet. So I just thought sod it and went for it, and got it to fit in the original cradle, a bit of furniture polish to lubricate it and it went in no bother. Thanks for giving me the encouragement to have a go. It slides in and out quite easily. The top part of the mounting has a soft rubber lining, so damage is quite unlikely.
Jobs a good un. Thanks.

I had the same fear initially, however, I took the car on a proper test drive, taking in the brand new estate being built where I live with its temporary roads, then up our pot holed main road and I gave it plenty of welly in some bends, some harsh braking and the thing didn't budge an inch. The real test though was the 125 mile drive the wife did at the beginning of the week where the unit stayed put for the entire journey.

Hi, new to this forum so treat me gently.

Great thread this, very helpful.

I have just purchased a new 500 for my wife which has the 68R fitted to it. I have read that the TT1005 does not fit the bracket "as is"

BUT, if I do the magnet mod, will the 1005 fit then do you think? The reason I ask is that I already have a 1005, it has the right socket on the bottom (I think), it has a metal back, so, it should work yes? Thanks, Dave
