Hi everyone :)

I'm new to the Fiat Forum, but it has been something that I've needed to join (why not sooner?) Well I'm here now and happy to share any stories, advice and just general chit-chat about Fiat 500.

So I'm an owner of a Fiat 500 Twinair Plus which as Fiat market these cars as #everydayfun - it sure is! It's not so good long distance, on the M-ways, but it's a lot of fun for short journey's and running around the cities. The amazing feature I like about them, is how cheap they are to run, not only insurance but petrol and such things.

I just wanted to introduce myself and hopefully help out any of you too.

As I mentioned before that I may have an issue here, just a few days ago I was happily driving towards my local supermarket and I took the eco mode off and I went to put my foot down and accelerate and it was very slow to push off, and then power fed through, then juddered again, and never really got going. so that concerned me. I went to check the oil levels once I'd let the engine cool down and added some more oil in - forgive me if this was a school boy error, but i checked the oil that i had reserved and it was a 5w 40 Sainsbury's edition and put about 300ml in to top the oil level. The car seemed to be running fine in Eco mode. a few days later I went to buy Castrol 5w-40 and then added some more oil in a few days after so that the engine is completely topped up (not over flowing by any means)

Then yesterday, It happened again, almost back-firing but this time the engine light came on, the orange warning triangle came on and because of this then the stop/start was unavailable. So to sum it up when I drive eco everything seems to be fine, I take eco off and then something is not quite right....

Is it my error of adding the oil? or is it deeper than this? I would appreciate your feedback guys ;)

I just want to say, that my car is booked in at my local dealer... but was just looking for any info, if anyone has experienced this before.

In total I've added 800ml in, which I'm right up to the max dash on the dip-stick.

Do you think it's my school boy error, or something underlying... I've read about coils, But it seems like this was a year ago.

In the TA you must use the exact correct approval number oil. Just getting the right weight isn't sufficient. You also don't mention if it was at least a fully synthetic.

MA engines use their engine oil to operate the valves, any non approved oil will cause drivability problems.

99% sure you'll need an oil change, but if the issue happened prior to that you might have two issues now.

What he said.....

Guys, Thanks for the info.

Sorry, Yes both oil's I've added have been fully synthetic. The Castrol Edge version I added the second time around was fine, I'm now worried that the Sainsbury's one is the school boy error. DOH! The dealership want me to bring it in next Wednesday to run a diagnosis.

Yes the coil's were done. My TA was called in once before a while ago too when there was a recall because of Turbo issue's, So the Fiat Dealership had replaced one of the pipes.

So the best solution right now would be to do the oil change. Good job I got more today - 4ltr Castrol Edge £36 from Euro Parts.

Yeah, I've been on some lengthy drives to, down to London more times than I have fingers to count on - it's always fun. (y)

Plead ignorance, and say nothing about the oil you added. Just tell them your car is fooked. Let them figure it out.
