Has anyone done an oil and oil filter change on there 0.9 twin air and if so can the filter be removed from the top.

Thanks for any info,
Fran

anybody fancy giving a difinative{sp}

answer to the TA's oil requirements ( I've stuck with Selenia)

Read this thread in its entirety. It will likely leave you feeling confused.

It seems Fiat's official oil specification for the TA depends on the date of original manufacture but basically 5W40 ACEA C3 for the earlier cars and 0W30 ACEA C2 for the later ones. Both are fully synthetic oils.

I'd agree it's a mess. Several folks have tried contacting Fiat CS directly to get a definitive answer and ended up even more confused than when they started.

To further add to the confusion, it's been reported that some multifranchise main dealers use whatever they have bought in bulk for servicing petrol cars generally.

If you use whatever is recommended in the handbook that came with the car (which will likely be on a CD ), at least you will be covered as far as the manufacturer's warranty is concerned.

I asked my supplying dealer ,they use Castrol / shell / whatever for 4 cylinder cars.
but said " we have to use Selenia for the Twinair" ,

that's enough reason for me..!!;)

Thank you for the link. Is this the same for the 0.9 twin air? Yes it is a bit of a mess looking for the correct oil and just where does the oil filter live?

If you peer over the top of the engine and look down from the right-hand side (viewed from the front), you will see the filter housing. It has a rounded top with a hexagonal shape on top. The filter cartridge is inside this housing. It looks like you could undo it with a socket and universal coupling, but I chickened out and gave the job to my local trusted mechanic. I don't know if he removed the air filter housing to improve access. I supplied the oil (Edge 5W 40, £30 for 4 from Costco), and he charged me £40 for the filter and labour, which I thought was pretty fair.

I'd agree, seeing as the filter element is £17.26 from S4P.

The replaceable element TA filter is a triumphal failure of eco pricing. S4P list the dispose to landfill non-eco spin on filter for the 1.2 for just £3.40.

it's NOT a traditional "modern" Cannister oil filter,

it's a metal housing/body - with a disposable paper element inside
(apparently like a Morris Minor..!!)

except that you can buy one for a Morris Minor for under £4.

I predict a huge fall in TA filter element prices once the fleet ages to the point where a significant percentage are being serviced outside the franchised dealer network.
cant you just put any filter that fits in it in it jrkitchign? I mean, from what I see a filter is just a metal circle that you screw on = )

I bought a genuine Fiat filter from a genuine Fiat dealer off the famous auction site for £12. I wouldn't mind, but the price of the filter is double the cost of what is fitted to my own car. Ludicrously expensive. I guess though I have it for a service later down the line after the car has been serviced first by Fiat. Then I'll change the oil myself at some point.

Thank you TrevC and others for adding some more info.
The price for a simple oil filter @ anything over £5 is a rip off and shame on Fiat.
